It's Pi (π) - 3.1415... how do you think it's related? I am interested to hear more...

http://www.vanishingpointgame.com/biography/ says

"I learned the trick of sliding by: did just well enough to get into an exclusive college and then kept my head down, graduating with a GPA of exactly 3.1415. That?s harder to do than you might think."

It might be a bit far-fetched... but there might be some connection, especially since it was posted quite recently on dec. 15

I saw that too, but he does not seem to be too much important person and it should be 3,1415 not 3,145 [as the reply goes for it in the next post]

Sorry, I misread that as 3.1415...

Just thought I should mention that post. I'll keep looking.

No, your right malcolmst. I missed that completely... I need to pay a lot more attention to this game. I am so not going to win anything :p

So we have these possible themes:

- Mathematics,

- Space,

- Fraud (see 'Las Vegas' references and 'Loki' reference),

- Stage Performance/Show (White Gloves and Stick-thingy),

- Microsoft (Sofware, Giant Corporation, Game Consoles, Lots of Money),

- Fame (possible product launch by the winner at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas),

Anyone see any others that I may have missed?

LOL@The Vanishing Point Wiki. Kinda reminds me of YTMND's investigation into Eon 8. Now that was hilarious.

EDIT: I just checked the Vanishing Point site and 3 red dots have appeared that I haven't seen before. And I've seen it in both Safari and Firefox.

Lol. He's suggesting to bruteforce it and then babbles about runescape for a bit I think, then asks if there are better forums trying to solve this.

EDIT: ^I dont get those red dots on my page.. Are they in the flash file or in the html?

I don't think that would be it, since there's definately a red mark on the screenshot image. I don't see it on the site either though... it's probably related to the browser

Well, I think it's more OS related now. Because I got it on Safari and FF on OS X. But it disappears in Windows. And nah, not hot pixels. Thought of that before I posted it =P

It's funny because it happens on a Mac! I keep telling people - all operating systems are equal... in flaws and features - they just have different ones.

Microsoft must have designed the site to show angry red dots at users of crapintosh computers :p

I've been watching this topic for the past few days, it really is quite amazing. I've tried solving some of the puzzles, but they are so hard.

Anyway, I think maybe we found one of the answers out of order. The recent audio file revealed a site that had a riddle on it. I didn't see much talk about the riddle and I wasn't sure if it had been solved already. The site says this:

Here?s a riddle for you:

At the end of our journey together, I will be discovered?and I will disappear.

my answer to the riddle is some sort of climax, something that requires a journey to get to, happens, and then is gone.

I tried climax and any other word related to that but they didn't work. I finally put it into a thesaurus and came up with a list of synonyms.

acme, apex, apogee, ascendancy, capsheaf, capstone, climacteric, crest, crowning point, extremity, head, height, high spot, highlight, intensification, limit, maximum, meridian, orgasm, pay-off, peak, pinnacle, pitch, summit, tiptop, top, turning point, utmost, zenith

the one that sticks out, zenith, was the answer to the 3scap3grav1ty puzzle. any coincidence?

*edit*

another thing that just caught my eye is the text in the Zenith page. I'm not sure if this was discussed already, I have read all of the pages of this thread but it is easy to forget. The page reads:

The vanishing point is the boundary between Something and Everything; between What Is and What Can Be. Fewer than a thousand people have ever been there to see the ultimate vista. The grand prize winner will be one of them.

The race for that destiny will begin when the countdown hits zero.

The words Something and Everything are capitalized, emphasizing those two words. The next part has What Is and What Can Be capitalized, again emphasizing the words. If the destiny is the vanishing point, and "The vanishing point is the boundary between Something and Everything", what is the vanishing point? it sounds like another riddle

Today, I wont have much time to puzzle. Family + christmas, etc. etc.

Cool to see the Wiki, although it's a bit empty.

I think the theory about the ZEN forum is a bit farefetched...

Here is the list again, I threw in some updates:

The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire - Vol 2 by Edward Gibbon (read online)

Biography clues/findings

1. The biography might be of Leonhard Euler

2. The formule looks like the Generalized continued fraction

Other clues/findings

1. Changing your system time progresses the counter, but nothing happens when it reaches 00:00:00.

2. The website counts down to 8th of January 2007 6.30pm

3. Every 15-letter word yields no results on the website

4. Flash decompiler and network monitor revealed /now.asmx and /precodehandler.ashx

Good luck!

After a little more poking around OS X seems to do something funny with the hidden things in the flash and throws up those red dots. The one by itself sits at the end of the Incorrect key text and the 2 down the bottom are sitting at the end of the back button. Oh well, coould have been something =P

I am 99% sure that she (or the winner) will wear that costume when they (her, the winner or both of them) launch 'the product' at the Bellagio, by the fountains.

...and wouldn't they edit out the man if it was a mistake? It must be there on purpose. Notice that you can't make him out AT ALL! And it's not like we don't know that someones filming it... ;)

Also (well for me anyway) the camera seems to jump off her to catch the vase and him. After he is on the screen for a second it snaps back. Anyone else notice that or think anything of it.

Does anyone have the ORIGINAL video - I know there is a high res quicktime version of it, but I presume that's a conversion (Microsoft using quicktime over it's equal - if not better - wmv format?). I would love to go through that in a good video application (like Sony Vegas) to see whats happening in all the shots...

Inzenity has the original WMV from the USB stick. He converted it to Quicktime.

The Quicktime video is pretty good, Im not sure if the WMV will unveil more...

(I asked him to post the file listing and meta data, but I can't see any clues in that)

What would be the purpose of the guy in the corner... He is wearing shorts and black socks... And what about the noticable orange rope/extension cord?

My computer doesn't like quicktime files... I think it's loves Microsoft too much. I'll just use the youtube video.

There appears to be nothing of interest on the tray, so they must be trying to point out the guy. I would say that they are trying to tell us something about who we are looking for - but I can't see it yet!

Wow... this has really taken on a life of its own! Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread and the continued effort to solve this challenge!

I'm continuing to read every single post and updating the initial post with the codes and details we find.

Thanks to our long-standing members, and our new ones, for making Neowin the ultimate community effort in this game.

Why are most links on the wiki pointing to unfiction?

But Ausasuke noted and i just checked: the countdown ends at 6:28 pm which is 18:28

If you take the date 2007. 1. 8. and put the time between the year and the month you get

2007182818

that strongly resembles e which is 2.7182818

    • An actual cosmic "Eye of Sauron" had been looking straight at us all along by Sayan Sen Image by Kovin P. Vasquez via Pexels | Not representative An international team of researchers has solved a long-standing mystery surrounding a distant blazar known as PKS 1424+240, helping explain why it produces some of the brightest high-energy gamma rays and cosmic neutrinos ever observed despite appearing to have a relatively slow-moving jet. The findings were published on June 6 in Astronomy & Astrophysics Letters. The study addresses a broader challenge in astrophysics: understanding how extreme cosmic objects accelerate particles to very high energies and produce very high-energy (VHE) photons and neutrinos. PKS 1424+240 is located billions of light-years from Earth. It has attracted attention for years because it is both a powerful source of VHE gamma rays and the brightest known neutrino-emitting blazar in the sky, according to observations by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. It is also associated with one of the strongest peaks in IceCube's nine-year neutrino sky map A blazar is a type of active galactic nucleus powered by a supermassive black hole that pulls in surrounding matter and launches jets of plasma moving close to the speed of light. What makes blazars unique is their orientation. One of their jets points almost directly toward Earth, making them appear exceptionally bright across the electromagnetic spectrum and allowing scientists to study some of the most extreme physical processes in the Universe. The scientists exclaimed it's like the 'Eye of Sauron' in deep space. Usually, the brightest gamma-ray-emitting blazars are expected to have jets that appear to move very quickly. However, radio observations of PKS 1424+240 suggested that its jet was moving much more slowly, creating a contradiction that became part of a long-running problem known as the "Doppler factor crisis." To investigate, researchers analyzed 15 years of observations from the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), a network of 10 radio antennas spread across the continental United States, Hawaii and St. Croix. Using a technique called Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), astronomers combine signals from widely separated radio telescopes to create a virtual Earth-sized telescope capable of revealing extremely fine details. The team combined 42 polarization-sensitive radio images collected between 2009 and 2025, creating a much deeper and more detailed view of the jet than had previously been possible. The observations were carried out as part of MOJAVE (Monitoring Of Jets in Active galactic nuclei with VLBA Experiments), a long-running program that studies the brightness, polarization and magnetic field structures of jets produced by active galaxies. The project aims to better understand how activity near supermassive black holes is linked to high-energy radiation and neutrino emission. “When we reconstructed the image, it looked absolutely stunning,” said Yuri Kovalev, lead author of the study and Principal Investigator of the European Research Council-funded MuSES project at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “We have never seen anything quite like it — a near-perfect toroidal magnetic field with a jet, pointing straight at us.” The image revealed an unusual geometry. The researchers found that Earth lies almost directly in line with the jet, with a viewing angle of less than 0.6 degrees. In simple terms, astronomers are looking almost straight down the jet. This turned out to be the key to the mystery. Because the jet is aimed almost directly at Earth, a relativistic effect called Doppler boosting dramatically increases its apparent brightness. The study found that this effect boosts the emission by a factor of about 30 while also making the jet appear slower than it actually is. “This alignment causes a boost in brightness by a factor of 30 or more,” said Jack Livingston, a co-author at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “At the same time, the jet appears to move slowly due to projection effects — a classic optical illusion.” The nearly head-on view also gave scientists a rare look at the jet's magnetic field. Using polarized radio signals, they detected a clear toroidal, or doughnut-shaped, magnetic field component. The observations suggest the jet carries an electric current and that its magnetic field helps launch, shape and stabilize the flow of plasma. Researchers believe this magnetic structure may also play a key role in accelerating particles to energies high enough to produce both gamma rays and neutrinos. “Solving this puzzle confirms that active galactic nuclei with supermassive black holes are not only powerful accelerators of electrons, but also of protons — the origin of the observed high-energy neutrinos,” Kovalev said. The research was conducted under the MuSES (Multi-messenger Studies of Energetic Sources) project, which investigates how active galactic nuclei accelerate particles and generate different cosmic signals, including light and neutrinos. Scientists say understanding how protons are accelerated and linked to neutrino production remains one of the major unanswered questions in astrophysics. The findings help explain why some blazars can appear to have slow jets while still producing extremely bright high-energy emissions. More broadly, the study strengthens the link between relativistic jets, magnetic fields, gamma rays and high-energy neutrinos. Researchers say the results provide new clues about how some of the Universe's most powerful natural particle accelerators work and offer important insights for multimessenger astronomy, which combines different types of cosmic signals to study extreme events in space.
