pfista
Is there a way to change the ctrl-alt-del button combination when logging in (or when you lock the comp) ? So you could have it ctrl alt 2 or something like that, to where you could make your own hot key, that only you would know. I edited my lock screen so that directions for pressing ctrl... are gone, and i wanted to make my own combo that other ppl wouldnt know. thanks, pfista Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/524538-change-ctrl-alt-del-to-something-else/ Share on other sites
j.nudd
I'm not exactly sure, but I would assume that that is part of the main code of the OS, and thus inaccessible to a consumer. I really don't know though, it's just an assumption on my part. brand
interesting take on security... You could try to look into running a autohotkey script as a service. You'd still have to modify one of the existing CTRL - ALT - DEL keys then, or someone could just trigger that in place of the hotkey. Meaning, setup a hotkey of CTRL-Z to replicate CTRL-ALT-DEL, then create a hotkey where DEL is changed to ENTER. That ay CTRL-ALT-DEL is dead. jak0bk
In Windows (and others) this is called a "secure attention sequence." It's designed to always be CTRL+ALT+DEL so that the user can be assured that it's the operating system responding to the key press and not a 3rd party app. Of course, it can be taken over, but it's hard. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Control-Alt-Delete#Windows_NT So, this is locked by the operating system (Windows). See the article for how it's handled in other situations. Long story short, there's no easy way to disable that short of GPO.
