Yeah, they're placed correctly but don't the white and red cables just give stereo and then adding the digital out cable adds the 5.1ch?

Putting stereo cables into a 5.1 system will NOT give you true surround sound. What it will do, is put stereo through your 5 speakers, and use the sub for emphasised bass :)

Then how is it possiple to get surround sound from a game console?

I know this really isn't the place to discuss this, but since it is the topic, if my TV has audio out, and I use the adapter above to hook up my X-530's to my TV, I still am not getting surround sound for let's say a DVD?

Oh, and my workstation

At my desk, there's a Dell 24 connected to a cable box and stereo tuner so I can run PC + TV or HDTV + PC - though I usually run one or the other, not both.

In the basement, there's a Westinghouse 42" monitor which also allows PC + TV or HDTV + PC. The computer is upstairs and is accessed via a BT mouse & keyboard, with the PC monitor function coming via a 25' dvi cable. Since the extended desktop is remote, the remote (Westy 42) desktop would be unmanageable without a nifty little program called UltraMon that mirrors the primary (Dell 24) task bar on the Westinghouse screen.

Nice Sens. I have a pair of the HD 202's and there pretty decent.

These 485s are awesome. I'm a total Sennheiser ho. I have a pair of the 202's also. They are great. Good bass response, and overall top notch performance considering the price.

You can get surround sound by using a digital out (optical) cable. I think all you get from the red and white cable is just stereo (one being for left and the other being for right speaker). Adding the digital out (optical) cable gives you 5.1ch surround sound which I don't think is possible with the X-530.

If I'm wrong, please correct me. ;\

2 ways to get 5.1 out of consoles:

1 - SP/DIF Dolby Digital (EX) connection with an tiny optical calbe giving you a dgital form of sound. You need a decoder/reciever to decode this.

2 - 2 stereo wires (red & white) with normal stereo sound encoded with Dolby Prologic II. This sounds like normal stereo sound when used on older/sompler devices but when once again hooked up to a reciever/decoder, you can decode 5.1(-ish) sound out of the 2.0 signal.

The first is by far more supior offcourse. These are the methods i know using Dolby product. Not too sure about DTS. Most console prefer Dolby anyway.

Right .. back on topic. I got me a new chair this weekend :) But my cam is dead so no pics. srry

New Stuff... Logitech Rumblepad 2 Cordless, Plextor DVD-RW, Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000.

Cable Management in Progress :p

Upper space is reserved for cables, which then goes through a hole to the PC. The bottom space is for the UPS, some type of kit and a huge bo to store cables... yes it's full of cables.

This is the Rumblepad2 and its reciever. Sorry forgot to turn off macro hehe

to connect those speakers to a console for 5.1, you would need an optical cable. You would need to connect that to some kind of decoder. If you PC has optical input, your software might let you decode to the speakers correctly. If you're not connecting 3 headphone jack type cables to those speakers, you aren't getting 5.1. Also, if you don't place your speakers correctly, the whole thing is pointless obviously.

Here's my current workstation! Got a LCD TV for christmas and man it rocks with my DVD recorder which is able to play DivX content :D. Please excuse the bad quality, I just suck at taking pictures, even with a k750i :p.
