Broncos' Williams killed Monday morning

DENVER -- Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in downtown Denver early Monday morning, police said. Team spokesman Jim Saccomano said police called him about 3 a.m. Mountain Time from the scene of the shooting and told him three people had been shot and that Williams had been killed.

Saccomano said he spoke with coach Mike Shanahan and others in the organization.

"Complete shock. We're speechless. It takes words away. A terrible tragedy," Saccomano said.

Hours before the shooting, the Broncos lost to San Francisco 26-23 in overtime, eliminating them from the playoff race.

damn thats sad :(

This is a damn shame. I am almost sure it was some damn idiotic fan(atic) disgruntled because the loss against the 49ers. He just completed the best season of his career and he had a bright future.

sucks that he was killed and all, but i just want to point out that there are so many nfl players out there that are involved with drugs/gangs/shooting/murders/anything illegal it makes me sick. this obviously wasn't an accidental shooting. these idiots are suppose to be role models but deep down they are just "gangstas" and it's pathetic that people worship them. and i'm not pointing everything at williams. hell, it happens to college and even HIGH SCHOOL football players too.

Did you even know the guy?

Nah, I didnt either. But the immediate facts can discard your theory. Williams was an avid spokeperson and activist that always opposed gangs wars and drug traffic.

Of course that was his media face and you can make any theories you want. But until you know the truth you cant talk like that, even if you "dont" point anything against Williams. Hell, if you didnt point then why mention that in this thread? Makes no sense.

Wow talk about jumping to conclusions. If you had read the rumors that have been coming out you wouldn't be saying that. Reports have been saying that he got into an arguement with some people. He decided the club and head to another party. The people that he got into the arguement followed him and then shot at his limo. This could have happened to anyone. There isn't any need to go on some crusade about nfl players and their behavior off the field.

Also athletes are not role models. Anybody believing that athletes are automatically role models are only setting themselves up for disappointment.

Don't let idiots like ray lewis give you bad impressions about an entire league...seriously.

From CNN.com

In December, Williams spoke of returning to his hometown this offseason to talk to youngsters about staying out of gangs.

Being from Denver I'm obviously a huge Broncos fan. This is a shame, he was a great cornerback. :(

Like maybe someone that lost a bet or something? That is just crazy. I sure hope this isn't the case, but whatever the case is nothing (short of defending yourself or family) justifies killing someone.

I remember way back in the soccer world cup held in 1994 in the USA. A player was killed by fans after a loss.

It can happen.

yeah i forgot the kids name but he was Colombian....he accidentally scored an own-goal and was killed by someone at a bar back home....the killer before killing him said something to the effect "u should have scored for the right side"....truly sad and barbaric

Exactly the one I was thinking about. Thanks for the reminder.

This surely is a hard time for Denver. More for the team than the fans. These players learn to be more than just team mates.

The name of the player is Andres Escobar.

I was set to gloat about the victory until I read the news. I hope they catch the people who were involved with this.

Yea I believe it. Just seems very crazy for me. But then again I never bet what I don't expect to lose.

I don't recall ever hearing of this happening to another NFL player before. Not like this anyway. Has a NFL player ever been killed over bets lost/upset fans before?

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
    • I wonder if "put it back the way it was for decades" ever crossed their minds? 🤣
    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.
