Question

A fresh "Best Antivirus" poll for 2007. Please use this as a reference when researching antivirus utilities. As time goes on, the poll can be updated to add further options.

Due to limitations of IPB - this will be seen as 2 polls. Select the Antivirus program you wish to vote for, and choose N/A in the other poll.

Happy voting!

Poll choices are links to the software pages.

Id love to here alsherons response to this. I?ve read his last to posts and seen a lot of unnecessary name calling and rhetoric without a lot of proof to back up his claims. I sorry but a single pc pro review that doesn?t publish its methodology doesn?t really compare to VB100 which is generally regarded as one of the best anti-virus comparisons.

Please tell me you are joking. If you aren't then you really need to check the facts.

VB100 is one test that you shouldnt trust.

It doesnt matter at all.

Eg. Quickheal which has done miserably in all tests in the past has VB100 certification ( http://www.quickheal.co.in/ ). I remember it managed to detect something like 55% of the malware in Av-test.org comparison last yr. Heck is some tests it managed to detect only about 30% of the malware.

VB's sample is very limited and they test with only a handfull of popular malwares. Due to the small sample size the test is highly unreliable. It becomes more of a matter of luck. As you can see kaspersky lost because it missed only 1 virus!!

No av has 100% detection rate.. but comparisons conducted with a much larger sample size reveal that kaspersky and avira are the best in terms of overall detection rates (in the wild as well as zoo types).

NOD32? Is it just me or do users of NOD32 seem to be about 12 years old and have a zealous obsession with it for some reason? How about reading, considering and evaluating some ACTUAL research/testing of Anti virus programs? Or does NOD32 "just rule" so much that despite it's lacklustre performance at actually catching/preventing viruses, it's the No. 1 pre-pubescent Antivirus solution.

It's the AV we deploy in the enterprises we support, but just go on thinking it's for 12-year-olds.
