I'm looking to spend around $5,000 on a new computer. I just don't know which I want to get, a Dell Dimension 8520, an Apple iMac, or an Alienware Area-51. Which ever one i choose, I will be customizing it to the max! :D well if anyone out there that owns those kinds of computers, could you post your review or what you think of the computers??? thanks, it'll help alot!!!

ALSO, i've never owned a mac, but i wouldn't mind learning all about it, and if i get the mac, i'm obviously getting the 20GB iPod! w00t!!!!

iMacs are nice but if you want something you can customize, there's not much opportunity in a mac.

if you look around at www.pricewatch.com you can see plenty of nice deals (but be careful who you buy from, ALWAYS call them first)

you'll generally save plenty of money to have money left over if you buy from price watch :)

just be sure that in adding up your final cost you include shipping prices :)

building a computer is indeed fun and it also gives you a much more personal & intricate knowledge of your computer and how it works. if you feel nervous, think you can't handle it, search Google for tutorials, i'm sure there are plenty.

man, $5,000 is a lot of money. you could get a really nice system going. and during christmastime, everyone puts nice deals on stuff.

thanks for the help everyone! i'm not into making my own system, and no-offense but i'd rather buy from a company im really familiar with. its still down to the alienware, dell, or imac. i know all about the customization of each and i plan on doing that to which ever one i buy.

agreed. I would go with a voodoopc if I wasnt going to build it myself and had the extra money. Have heard nothing but good things about them. Supposedly amazing customer service. Used to work at a best buy, got alienwares in for service quite often....actually best buy's matrix computers are the absolute best they carry....all the tech guys bought matrix's :p another bonus to best buy is if something goes wrong you can take it in for service asap.

Ibuypower.com makes great computers and great prices.

However I noticed Falcon-Northwest has a special edition out that celebrates the US, it has a custom case that cost about 699 dollars.

Since you are trying to spend a lot of money. For 5 grand I could build 2 maybe 3 killer boxes myself.

but i would definetly try ibuypower.com if you didnt want to build your own.

Dell will give you the best bang for the buck. Alienware and Voodoo (esp alien) are just overpriced.

So tell us what you are going to use the computer for.

BTW, 5000 on a pc is a waste. Buy something good now (2000 grand max) and use the rest to uprade it in the future. Why blow all the money now when in less than a month, it's out of date. Heck, in a year, it will be lowend. If you had your extra 3000 you could easily upgrade it to keep it top of the line.

So in conclusion:

Dell (or iMac)

Alienware is overpriced

only spend 2000

save the other 3000 to upgrade the computer in the future.

jeebus, 5 grand is a lot to spend on a computer. heh i think you can pretty much buy all the top of the line components right now and still have some dough left. but yeah in about a month or so, all that will be overshadowed by something better. damn technology. ok but if i were you, i would spend a grand on the computer and the spend the remaining 4 g's on a reasonably priced plasma screen. like this: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/y3kdigital/son...npf32plasf.html :happy:

To be honest with you anyone spends that kind of money on a PC is a either really rich or is a sad git and is trying to make up for something down below

If i was you id build it myself therefore you dont get charged for labour which could amount to quite a bit plus you dont get all that rubbish they usually stick on yer PC like programs you will never use.
