Remove It plugin for Maxthon 2.0 beta4

Maxthon 2.0 is the only browser which has the advanced text filter capability like proxomitron or privoxy. Essentially text filter modifies the source code of web pages on the fly, so it can not only remove any types of ads, but also most web page annoyances and malicious contents.

To take full advantages of text filter, some advanced techniques are required. Remove It plugin will ease the use text filter by visualizing and automating the addition of text filters. There are 3 ways to remove unwanted contents from webpages:

Method 1) Select Content with Mouse

Other than some script generated contents, most visible contents can be removed this way.

1. Click Remove It button to open Remove It dialog

2. Right click any content, like flash, image, links, iframe, video, or selected text, a blue translucent window will cover the content

3. Click "Preview" to check the result, and "Expand" or "Reduce" to if you want to remove more or less content

4. Click "OK" to add text filter, or right click other content to select again, or click "Cancel" to abort

5. Click "Update Page" in plugin menu to activate the new text filter and reload the web page

Method 2) List Removeable Contents with ID

Often ads are hosted in web page elements with specific ID, we can check IDs and block them easily:

1. Click "Remove Content By ID..." to open the ID list (Note: May take minutes for some web pages)

2. Click on suspectable ID, the relevant content will move to viewable area, a blue translucent window will flash on the content

3. Click preview, and select the checkbox in front of the ID if you want to remove the content. Can select multiple IDs

4. Click "OK" to add text filter, or click "Cancel" to abort

5. Click "Update Page" in plugin menu to activate new text filter and reload the web page

Method 3) List Removeable Script (For Advanced Users)

The above methods may not be able to remove contents generated by scripts, but alternatively we can remove the relevant scripts:

1. Click "Remove Scripts..." to list all external scripts

2. Click any script to view the source code

3. Click the checkbox in front of script if you want to remove the script, can select multiple scripts

4. Click "OK" to add text filter, or click "Cancel" to abort

5. Click "Update Page" in plugin menu to activate new text filter and update the web page

6. Please note that some scripts have dynamic address and editing of the new text filter may be necessary

View and Edit Filters

Remove It does not filter ads, but create a filter pack called "RemoveIt.xml" and adds text filters to it. Filters added by Remove It plugin are site specific, and are grouped by domain. e.g. filters added in "forum.maxthon.com" will be added under the group "maxthon.com" and will be effective only in the domain "maxthon.com". When browisng non "maxthon.com", filters specific to "maxthon.com" will be skipped. This can improve page loading speed and prevent filter errors. To view or edit filter, click "Edit Filters..."

Very very cool plugin and since it operates via the Maxthon proxy, it makes surfing much much faster and safer :)
