PS3 "Live" type Service available?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I'm asking this question for a friend that is considering a PS3.

Does the PS3 let you talk to people that you are playing multiplayer games with? ...Similar to the 360's "Live" service?

If so, does it come with the headphones? ...and is the matchmaking process as easy as Live?

Thanks.

yes and no, there is an online service but it is not nearly as feature rich as live is per say

Yes you are able to use the mic within games to chat. Also, with the next "big" update in March.. inclusive within the firmware update is rumored to be such features like voice/video chat and what not. With that being said, it's also stated that eventually we should be able to do voice/video chat with others (even those outside of the game) while still being in the game itself. All part of the multitasking fixes and new features they are going to add this spring and into summer. Some is speculation and rumored, but other little things have pretty much been confirmed. Wonder what else they'll come up with. PSN will be a whole different animal by then.. we don't need "Live" :p

we don't need "Live" :p

I'm just curious here, and this is judging by all your posts, not just this one... but why exactly are you so against the Xbox? I don't get it, why dismiss something which is arguably just as good as the PS3, if not better? You aren't a Sony employee or anything (I'm assuming), so how does it benefit you? Join the dark side, we're all nice you know.

I'm not against the XBox.. I'm just supporting the Playstation 3. I'm pretty sure you'd throuw a cry baby fit if I placed the same question in your hands only vice versa. Not everybody in this world wants to be a sheep.. some of us can and will have other preferences. Nothing wrong with supporting the PSN and it's future, but according to you and some of your playmates there is? Odd.

:iiam: ...he's not a happy camper when it comes to Xbox :p

Yeah, I don't even understand why he has a 360. All he does is complain about it.

As stated, at least for right now, PSN is broken in comparison to XBL, but I guess I'd have to agree with TDQ - with the exception of neglecting it all together (which, for some reason or other, wouldn't surprise me if they did), the only thing Sony could possibly do to it is make it better.

No, I'm not saying don't support the PS3, nothing wrong with that, it's just some of the things you say puzzle me. Like if Sony does something wrong like blatantly lie, you'll say "oh let's not worry about it" and "we don't need Live", when clearly it is better than PSN. Meh, I guess you really really love PS. I just like to keep my options open, whatever is better for my money, I'll go for.

Oh and I have nothing against PS3, I just disagree with some of Sony's business practices of late. I would buy one when it's released (games like R&C and MGS I love) if it wasn't so expensive, in my eyes yes it is too expensive. When the prices come down.

Does it puzzle you because it's not your way of thinking? Guess so, but you know.. we're all entitled to our preferences. I can understand the expensive comment, but I guess some of us don't mind shelling out the cash for things like this. It's entertainment to me and I love everything it has to offer.. the future is only bright from here and I'm sure there are plenty more offerings to come from the PSN and Sony itself. Some of us don't let the media ramblings or forum/blog babble interfere with our decision. Some of the business practice is questional as of late, but you could nail that label on any other company if you really wanted to. Part of the cost of being a big time corporation is being able to go under the crosshairs every now and again. Entertainment is a very expensive industry and it won't get any cheaper.. so what's not to love about a free network service for video games?

I've honestly seen the opposite. If Microsoft does something wrong or Nintendo even, it's just whatever, they'll fix it. But if Sony turns around and does the same thing, it's like "OMFG SONY Sux0rs... xb0x pwns ps3".

And I do agree about the price, Sony would have had great things going for them if it was just a little cheaper.

That's because Sony lie, then lie again, and keep on lying. When Microsoft or Nintendo mess up, they are quick to try and fix things, while Sony just go quiet. Like that scaling issue, it can scale horizontally fine using the new firmware, but, for vertical scaling, it needs a hardware scaler.

Those words in bold pretty much mean I can ignore your opinion on the subject, MS are masters are going dark when the stuff hits the fan.

"Our" network? Why did you phrase it like that. Makes you sound like you have a part in it's creation.

Let's be honest, can Sony provide a network like 'Live' for free? I don't think so. Are Sony good at making software? Nope, certainly not, look at their SDK.

Less than a week ago, Mozilla fixed crashes on Intel Raptor Lake processors with version 152.0.1. Now, Mozilla has prepared yet another set of fixes that address problems with localization, playback issues of certain MP4 files, and performance issues on website that perform various encryption operations at once. Here is the full changelog: Firefox 152.0.2 is now available for download from Mozilla's FTP. Existing installations will get the update over the next several hours. The latest version will also be available soon on the official website, the Microsoft Store, and Neowin's Software page. You can find Firefox 152.0.2 release notes in the official documentation. In case you missed it, Mozilla released Firefox 152 earlier this month. The latest feature update brought reworked settings with a more streamlined user interface, JPEG XL support, new features for Private mode, a new way to mute a tab (just type "mute" in the address bar), and many more. You can find the complete changelog here. In other Firefox news, Mozilla recently published its roadmap, where the company detailed the upcoming Nova redesign and other features it plans to implement. Mozilla wants to make the new user interface easier to navigate and more modern, with a heavy focus on its privacy tools, such as its built-in VPN. If you are curious, you can already enable the new UI as described here.

    • I wonder how many are laid off for cost savings, and this being blamed on AI to make it sound less scary and bad, for a more positive "modern, with the times" spin for investors? Because Oracle is down 14% the past year. We're looking at a company struggling here. If AI would actually be working out so well for them that they can do massive layoffs, surely this would've been reflected the past year in their stock value?
