Partiton Magic PQBoot: Error Loading Operating System

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys

I have a MacBook, and a little while ago I installed Windows XP onto another partition on the hard drive. Recently, I installed Fedora 6 on my external hard drive. The installation was successful and error free. In order to boot in Fedora, I needed to set my primary boot device my USB external HDD. However, After selecting to boot in Windows (after holding 'alt' after start up), I was unable to access the BIOS, as I didn't know which key to hold. So then, I decided to use a tool that comes with partition magic called pqboot. I selected the partition of my external HDD that held Fedora, and I hit reboot now. I presumed this would boot me into Fedora upon restarting, however, I just get the message 'Error loading Operating System' in plain white text at the top left hand corner of the screen after rebooting and selecting Windows. Nothing happens when I press a key on the keyboard, and I end up having to shut the MacBook down by holding in the power button. I decided to remove the external HDD from the Mac and try again but to no avail. Now, I can only boot into Mac OS. I'd greatly appreciate it if you guys could tell me how to fix this problem, i.e. how I undo what pqboot has done, so I can boot into Windows again?

I know this is a very stupid mistake I have made, but I would really appreciate your help. Thanks very much.

Hi,

I am in the same boat except that i was just fooling around with pqboot. While i was in windows xp partition on my mac, i tried using pqboot to get me back into mac partition and whollaaaaa!!!! ...."error loading operating system"... and now i can only access my mac partition. of course, i can delete my windows partition altogether and reinstall it if needed but i would appreciate if i don't have to do that and can fix the issue.

thanks
