Resolution on G4 without monitor

Recommended Posts

Ok, here's the deal. My dad and I setup our G4 as a remote computer so the only cables going to it is ethernet and power. Now, since the monitor is not hooked up, it uses a max resolution of 1024x768, which is very low compared to the 1920x1200 it runs at with a monitor connected. We want to increase this, but since there is no monitor connected, we cannot.(it only shows 800x600 and 1024x768)

I searched as much as I could think of, and the best I found was a Video Terminator that comes with the mac server G3. But A) we are running a G4, B) We are not running a server, just a remote desktop.

Is there any pins we can jumper together without damaging the graphics card to make it think a monitor is connected? Or is there any software or anything we can run on it to allow it to change to a higher resolution?

Any help will be appreciated.

EDIT: It is running OS X 10.4.8

It wouldn't matter if it were a G3 or a G4, that terminator should do the same thing. And you ARE running a server. The only other thing that I can suggest is to hook up a monitor to it, set the resolution where you want it, then remove the monitor. Of course, you'd have to do this every time you restart the machine, but there really isn't a reason to be restarting it all that often.

So, hooking the monitor up, setting the resolution then unhooking it(while the computer is on), will keep it at 1600x1200(till it gets restarted)?

I'll have to try that. Its ashame I cant find any place to buy just a terminator......I searched but other then the G3 page, the only thing that has terminator is every website that mentions any of the terminator movies. :/
