Remove IE 7?

Ok, I just got a new laptop with Vista pre-installed. I'm not a IE user at all. In the past I have used a custom XP install using nLite. I would like to remove IE 7 from my pre-installed verison of Vista, if it's possible. I know the creator of nLite is coming out with vLite, but I don't have a Vista install disk, just a Dell Recovery CD.

If I were you I wouldn't remove IE 7 just in case - You may need it randomly. Use it as a reserve browser.

However, if you find it "annoying" why don't you just make all of the folders and icons relating to IE "hidden" (and make your new browser the default) and then it will seem like it is uninstalled, but it will still be installed just in case.

I can't actually find out how to remove it fully, but if I was you, I'd just delete it out of the program files and then everytime you see an icon, file or folder, just delete that lol (soz I can't help you on removing it, but take my advice about "hiding" it, rather than removing it, into consideration)

hmm well if you can get your hands on a vista cd, you could use your same code, naturally. But as far as like just plain uninstalling? I don't think MS would let you do that.

Exactly my point - you will need it for at least something

However you can just hide it (by right clicking and properties) and hide it's files and folders, if you really want to - then when you need it you can "unhide" just the actual shortcut file on the desktop.

I'm sure you don't need any browser for Windows Update in Vista though do you?

I have it and I just click on a program called "Windows Update" that opens up a window similar to the "Control Panel" window and you just click on "Check For New Updates" and "Install", I'm sure you don't use IE or any other browser for Windows Update in Vista. Am I not right?

wow, you have issues. take the IE icon off your desktop, and assign your browser off choice as your default browser. why do you hate IE7 so much? using firefox is just going to create issue with certain webpages. everything on the web is optimized for IE, get use to it.

IE does not and will not comply with W3 standards, that means the W3 standards used to lay down rules on how to optimize web pages to be suitable in ALL browsers are not used in IE.

IE does not use standards it should, get use to it.

As far as I know, Windows Update does not require IE in Vista. However, there is Office Update that requires IE. I'm not sure whether Microsoft Update integrates into Vista like Windows Update does, but if it doesn't, IE would still be required to use Microsoft Upda:). :)

seriously though medafor made a good point, perhaps a little agressively. You on the other hand come and insult members

Freindly Warning: Neowin is tightly regulated and i doubt your stay here will be a long one if you carry on like this!

Anyway IMHO keep IE there for stuff that will only work on IE, Install Firefox and use the IEtab extension when required ( http://ietab.mozdev.org/ )
