Does Windows Vista Aero look like Mac OS X Aqua to you?

overkilled... no they look completely different,

btw: Apple did not invent some glassy effects etc you may find in OS X and "similar" ones in Win.

Glassed Silver:mac

OT of the day

Let's face it. Whatever MS comes up with it will be total rip off of Apple (Insert whatever here). As if Apple is the only driving and innovative force in the computing world. It's logical that MS implements features in their products. I am more amazed how much bashing can go on regarding how much MS "stole" from Apple. Not being OS X user, I cannot comment on features and capabilities, but tell me one thing OS X can do that you already can't do on Windows either built in or via 3rd party applications? As if fast index feature and other features have been Apple property. MS planned WinFS (which is basically just that to my knowledge) and a lot of other things which got scrapped in the process a long time ago. A lot of things that get built into Apple OS is already available via 3rd party software on Windows platform. It's not like they don't borrow ideas from others also. But when MS implements something, they ripped off Apple. Get real. If MS released "a new OS" with changelog - "Search bar implemented, sidebar and new shiny icons" it would get blasted to death. I am not saying ME was original or anything...but if MS were to release OS at Apple's pace and list of changes, it would be over from them. Vista for example probably brings a lot of changes and new stuff, but yet it is still labeled as XP with new skin or what not. I don't use it. I won't be upgrading anytime soon, if ever. But I have to admit that the changes they bring with new release are far from cosmetic ones. I don't dig that eye candy at all. I want features. And wasn't Luna rip off of Aqua to begin with? I could have sworn that I read that somewhere.

I personally don't care who did what...I buy and use what suits me best, no matter who makes it and I pretty much don't care who and how they did it as long as they did. I wish MS would implement a lot of things in Windows so I could scrap most 3rd party applications, but we all know how would that end - lawsuit from 3rd party vendors.

i hate mac fanboys.

im not a windows fanboy either...

why not say Ubuntu stole their design from osx too? i mean cmon. the menus are at the top :o

omg!

they dont look ANYTHING alike.

if you think they do. your either

1) a blind pink monkey

or 2) a mac fanboy.

are you kidding? have you heard of GOSSIP? hulllooo... most mac osx fanboys WONT GO NEAR A windows rig. use vista. then tell me that its the same.

I used to like the OSX eye candy then MS gave us...wait for it...one more moment...VISTA! (Angels are singing.)

I do notice that the window transition, i.e. minimize and restore remind me of OSX, but the GUI does not look alike in any manner.

It reminds me of that Mac commercial from the eighties, all the Mac fanboys are sitting in front of a screen showing Steve Jobs' face and listening to him tyrade on their iPods.

Just Mac Fanboys trying to justify their egoes. That is all they have.

MS didnt rip the glass but everything else like the search thing has been ripped

Microsoft showed off Windows Desktop Search before Apple demoed Spotlight. It was rather obvious that they'd integrate it into their next OS, rather than leave it as a separate entity.

ok, so the calendar apps look the same, oh and the search box.. so what.. there's a generic design that's kind of hard to make unique without breaking usability.. mac fanboys get over that.. osx looks like crap and can't achieve anything close to that what vista can. they look absolutely nothing alike aside from that which is inherently similar. there's only so many ways you can put a simple box in a window and have an icon showing that it's a search box.. OMG they used a magnifying glass in a small box! they MUST be copying off our our awesomenesssss OSX!!!

get a hold of reality and realize that no one's copying anything.. apple isn't this awesome company they have so many people deceived into thinking they are.. microsoft is just as lame but can at least make a fast OS that's got some advanced capabilities.. no one is right or wrong for using vista or osx, it's all your own prerogative whether you want to waste $$ on crap hardware and osx that's way overpriced, or wast $400 for an OS that's better but not worth half it's cost.

look at the obvious rather than trying to slight vista as attempts at justification for defending your precious(ly corrupt) stevie jobs and his overprices pieces of crap.. thank you for your time, and i'll go back to resting my feet upon our Mac Minis which serve little use for real computer geeks..

No, they don't look the same. The only thing that reminds me of OS X is the new alt-tab (no, not the Flip3D), except instead of large icons in the window it has an actual preview. Other than that, I fail to see any similarities.

This is like saying that Lamborgini ripped off Ferrari - sure, the cars look to some extent similar and provide a similar function, they didn't rip each other off.

The same can be applied to the OS - they serve one function! To allow the user to interact with the applications, nothing else!

And to people who say OS X looks ugly, I agree, it does look ugly when on Windows, but when on a Mac the UI looks fantasic. (It's down to the gamma - my signature for example looks awful at 2.2 gamma, which is what is used by Windows, but at 1.8 gamma like on the Mac it looks as I intended to make it.)

That was the first thing I noticed is that all the walls and sigs that I made on Xp Pro looked massively different on the iMac I got recently. Yeah the OS looks different than one another but the true difference is always going to be under the hood.

For the longest time I had my XP system looking, or mimicking rather, the OS X visual style, with Rocket Dock, Windowblinds etc...but it still 'felt' like Windows. The file structure was always Windows etc...

Now that I'm on a Mac, it 'feels' like a Mac and not like Windows. Little nuances that you can't see are what really make the difference. It's just something that you have to find out and feel for yourself. It really doesn't come down to looks between the OS as anything can get duplicated on either one of the operating systems, OS X or XP.

Note: There was a powertoy for Windows XP that did that, and was available from release.

iCal:

Windows Calendar:

Oh and the search?

header.jpg

osx-homedir.jpg

OH NOES THEY STOLED OUR SEARCH BOX!!!!!!!11oneoneone

Its a search box, who cares there are only so many ways to do a search box. There are similar looking search boxes in Opera, Firefox, IE7, Maxthon, and so on. I guess they copied apple as well right? because a search box is such an amazing piece of technology apple just had to pioneer it right?

Oh and ROFL had to laugh at the calendar one. How many different ways are there to make a calendar application lol? may i point out that a similar calendar has been in Outlook for years

The image didn't reveal all of iCal's buttons on the buttom of the window--new task and new appt. are all there.

Also forgetting the iLife suit? Windows Photo Gallery? DVD Maker?

In that case, I guess nero also copied apple since they also have some of that stuff in their product suites. Seriously, get over yourself dude, DVD apps and photo galleries again, not exactly such marvellous examples of technological achievement that they need to be copied off apple.

.....1 word and two letters....**** no.

All I know is that Apple stole all the ideas from Vista, as Vista was being worked on for about 5 years and Apple had time to release a new OS (which they did) with all those features before MS and say they did it before MS. That also means why Vista is not as innovative as you think. ;)

@st8er agreed. :)

They both look different from each other. Vista or OSX, I don't see anything that looks the same. Colors are different plus the search bars on the right top of the screen always been there, ever since Netscape Navi. I think Apple went too far when they said Vista is the same as OSX on their keynote. Plus their both computers they do the same ****, a windows computer or a OSX computer can do.

what about windows sidebar... a cheap ripoff of dashboard?

Nope. Sidebar was shown long before Apple even hinted at Dashboard. And there are plenty of other implementations (Konfabulator, DesktopX, etc) to even begin to claim that's Apple's idea. Plus, Dashboard is another gadget/widget platform - but the design is quite different.

what about that winkey+tab bs which shows your desktop in 3d... looks a lot like a ripoff of expose to me.
How so? You do realize that Expose is just the "Tile Windows" function that's been in Windows for ages, right? Apple added an easy hotkey and a slick animation. That doesn't mean every animated window-switching mechanism is copying them now, does it? Flip3D is Alt-Tab in 3D, and it was ALSO shown in Longhorn builds and preview shots before Expose.
Windows Calendar? thats iCal without a doubt.

OMG, it's a calendar! How dare Microsoft make a calendar app that looks like... a calendar. Of course iCal isn't a rip-off of Outlook's calendar or anything. Nope, definitely not. Apple invents everything.

The new save interface... quite similar to OS X.
In what way?
the "Search" bar in the start menu? Isn't that spotlight?

You do realize that Spotlight is just a lame copy of Windows Desktop Search, right? And that WDS shipped before Spotlight, right?

All Apple did was move the search box from the taskbar to the top-right of the screen. And now in Leopard they're playing catch-up again by adding features that Vista / WDS already has.

    • I like Tidal, but it still does not control devices from the mobile/app and still no surround support. And yeah re: above comment I still get a lot of network errors and I am on a 4/4 Gbit Fiber connection.
    • Aren`t "security features" and "AI model that can see your screen" a tad diametric!
    • Samsung, Amazon extend 990 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD deal beyond Prime Day 2026 by Sayan Sen Recently, we had Amazon's Prime Day 2026 sales wherein there were several great deals including on SSDs. One of those discounted components was the Samsung 990 PRO SSD as the 2TB variant of it was selling for $370, a very good price after a long time. Although that deal was supposed to expire today, Amazon has now extended that sale further (purchase link under the specs table down below). The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and still one of the fastest drives available today for under $400. Speaking of fast, sequential reads and writes are rated at 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The random throughputs for reads and writes are 1400K IOPS and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The 990 PRO is based on Samsung's 7th Gen V-NAND flash, and it too is TLC. It packs 2 gigs of LPDDR4 DRAM cache, which helps the random performance. The endurance rating for this is 1200 TBW (terabytes written), which should be sufficient for most users. • Glad im on the right boat. Tidal has lots of issues in terms of app and music mix, its worst than spot but its honest. Spot algo is very tendentious and they pess less to artists, so im comfortable with the tidal errors, for now.
    • Tidal won't monetize AI slop music, company says by David Uzondu Image via Tidal Tidal has announced an AI policy aimed at protecting artists and their crafts, as AI music generation tools continue to improve both in speed and quality. According to the music streaming platform, AI-generated music will be accepted, but these tracks will be held to a "higher standard" of content integrity. Next month, the company plans to auto-identify and tag these uploads. Listeners will spot a special icon next to content that algorithms flag as 100% AI-generated starting mid-July, and the platform hopes to expand this tag to partially generated songs as detection tech improves. Any AI music that exploits an artist's voice or likeness will be taken down, and Tidal will immediately block tracks associated with fraudulent activity, which includes artificial streaming and deceptive content that interferes with real creators. And finally, music that's 100% AI-generated will not be monetized. Tidal said there is "ongoing debate" about whether certain licensed synthetic models deserve payouts, so it's possible that this part will change in the future. Streaming platforms are absolutely getting flooded with AI-generated music because of how easy it is to pump out endless tracks every minute. To give you an idea of how "bad" it is, Deezer alone reported that synthetic uploads now make up about 44% of its daily intake, which translates to roughly 75,000 automated tracks hitting its servers every single day. Interestingly, Deezer found most people cannot tell the difference between human and machine creations, with an Ipsos study revealing that 97% of listeners failed to spot the AI-generated tracks. Spotify's CEO recently pushed back against listeners who call AI music "slop," urging people to stop using the term and instead embrace the creative potential of AI music. The Swedish platform partnered with Universal Music Group to test "legal and controlled" generative AI tools that let subscribers remix songs with AI.
