Grand Theft Auto IV

Recommended Posts

Rockstar should really develop GTA IV for the Wii, it's a perfect candidate..

No way the Wii could run the engine.

Yea!!, Even if it was just an animation, it would be pretty sweet. But It would cool if "hot wiring" a car was set up like a puzzle.

That would get old real fast.

GTA IV takes flight

by Tom Bramwell | 24/04/07 12:19

If you're still lamenting the loss of flight in Grand Theft Auto IV then you might as well stop, because the game has helicopters after all.

That's according to Game Informer's Andrew Reiner, the only journalist who's seen the game running. "There are no airplanes in the game, but flying is still there. One means of this is the helicopter. As Dan [Houser, of Rockstar] pointed out, this is just one city and a plane really doesn't fit into that very well for gameplay. Flying is still very much a large part of the game," he told fan-site GTANet.

And while Reiner only got to see the game for 15 minutes, it was enough to convince him of its quality - and showcase some neat new features, like a new method of car-jacking. "From what I was shown, the only new element was breaking the window of the car to get in. The animation for this was awesome, and something I wish I had seen more than once," he revealed.

"The car I saw was newer in make - which was evidenced in both the beautiful crimson sheen and suspension that handled pot holes and variances in the road with ease. Now, I only saw one car, but it really did have that new car look to it. It'll be interesting to see how Rockstar handles the shocks and struts for other vehicles in the game."

Rockstar is still playing a lot close to its chest, but there was room for some clarification. You'll be able to go out with women and climb telephone poles for sure, and a cheeky smile or two hinted at returning characters, and the possible presence of boats. Meanwhile, it doesn't sound like you'll be able to build up a property portfolio the way you can in Vice City and San Andreas, and thankfully it also doesn't sound like main character Niko spends as much time in the gym as our old friend Carl Johnson.

Anyway, for more titbits, turn your eyes to GTANet, or check out the trailer on Eurogamer TV one more time. Because you have already seen it, right?

I suggest you look at GTANet.com because they have a nice 25 question interview with the guy who saw the 15 minute playing of GTA IV.

I posted the whole thing here: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=556012

Unfortunately, I posted it in the Games for Windows forum thinking I was in Gamer's Hangout.

helicoptors? awesome. Not being able to buy properties = :( that was awesome, it really engrossed me in previous GTAs when i bought places and got a steady stream of income form them!

Meh, Im kinda glad if it removed - I never bothered collecting the money anyways :p

But I think they will have some ala what GTA Vice City Stories had.

Why is it we have to create a yet another new thread for every GTA news out there? :p

This one seems just fine

So you're saying that every game deserves only one thread? Trust me, this game is big enough to deserve all the threads it gets ;)

perhaps have a very tall building or two or three in which you'd be able to go to every single floor, every room. all the way to the ceiling.. even climb the antenna thingy on top. it would be fun to be able to throw people out of a 135 story window or something...

...

Closest i've seen to that, was a cop (i think) building in GTA:VC, only had one floor, but if you did it right, you could get people to jump (more like run) out a window.

True, but it would be nice to keep it all organized in one thread :)

they are free on the rockstar site so i doubt they would be able to sell them on xbla

Rockstar wouldnt - but I bet Microsoft would :D

I don't see how that would matter, all animations could get old eventually. I never got tired of the door opening animation in san andreas.

But if hot wiring was some kind of puzzle that you had to complete every time you wanted to steal a car, that would get very old fast because you just want to be able to press a button and get in, not do a little puzzle all the time.

make the puzzle simple and although annoying, it would still be cool. think about it, its such a super easy puzzle that its almost like a certain combination of buttons, u do it again and again, get good at it, have it down- then you are being chased by the cops and you get into a car and you mess up cause your soo frantic, it gives it that little bit of a realistic element. GTA is not Crackdown, I dont envision us getting super powers. Its all about guns, money and POWER.

i think if they do it the way epic did it with reloading in GoW it would be pretty sweet, timing to open the lock so you get in faster than normally or miss and the door won't open as fast.

I agree that wouldn't be too bad an idea. Or Spinter Cells way either you attempt to unlock it (via mini game or suggestion above) or simply smash the window and rip the door open alerting nearly everyone around you.

That's actually a pretty great idea! :o

Like, smash the window, open the door, and when it comes to the hotwirering - it goes into GoW-active-reload mode :p

GTAIV Previewed in OPM

# As expected, there's no more pop-ups of buildings and trees as we've seen in the past due to the completely overhauled graphics engine.

# Bridges may keep you from accessing other boroughs at the start of the game, but this hasn't been definitively determined yet.

# Dan Houser, creative VP and co-founder of the company, states that it's not a block for block recreation. Also, Houser said that there won't be any "dead spots" or "irrelevant space" in the city.

# Loading screens are a thing of the past when crossing islands or entering interiors. They won't be there.

# Niko Bellic, the main character, is in his mid-thirties age-wise. You won't be able to customize his physique, but you will be able to change his clothing.

# Houser stated that there will not be any old characters returning. This is a new, different Liberty City. Some brands and possibly radio personalities will return, but not characters.

# A Staten Island-esque area will not appear in the game because Rockstar Games decided that it would not be a fun location to play in.

# The mob will be featured in the game, just not as lead characters. "Almost none" of the characters from the previous games are returning.

# Houser stated that no one has attempted to recreate a location of this size with the kind of detail they are going for.

    • Indeed - drives me mad - usually because Refresh is hidden in the full menu.
    • Firefox has had rounded corners for many years. I take it you're not a fan of modern browsers?
    • The problem is in the fundamentals of how businesses are allowed to operate and the change should happen in the basics and certain consumer friendly and moral practices should be enforced by law. This would fix so many things, not just this ages old default browser issue which is a tiny drop in the backut that includes a flood of privacy and other issues.
