[Rugby]Ireland Hammer Engalnd

Yesterday was the proudest ive ever been to be an Irish man, not because of the result of a sports game, but because of the controversy surrounding the playing ogf the british anthem in a stadium with a very Irish history behind it. The media hyped it out of all proportions.

The result was that the english team were applauded and cheered by 80,000 irish fans and they applauded the anthem too.

This was a big statment from the Irisg people.

I am immensely proud to be irish. (Then kicking their arse helped too :))

Ireland kept its Six Nations hopes alive with an emotion-charged 43-13 victory over England at Dublin's Croke Park.

England's revival under coach Brian Ashton suffered its heaviest setback as the home team ran in four tries to humble the English side which could respond with only one try.

Lock Paul O'Connell said the Ireland team wanted to do the occasion justice, and so it proved.

"It was a very good performance. There were a few mistakes but overall it was great.

"We played clever rugby and got points on the board, be it penalties or tries," he said after the match.

England coach Ashton told the after-match press conference: "I'm very disappointed. I said how we made mistakes against Scotland and Italy and that we'd need to go up two or three gears if we were to beat Ireland.

"But we didn't do that and were punished by a side that was sharper than we were. They were more physical and fresher.

"We were beaten all over the field, there's no doubt about that."

Irish coach Eddie O'Sullivan said the label of chokers the British press had hung on Ireland had been motivation.

"We're back in the championship and still in with a shout at the Triple Crown.

"I thought it would be closer, particularly in weather like that. England weren't bad, it was more we were good," he said.

"They tried to play but we were clinical and ruthless. I suppose that was our best performance against a Six Nations team."

England flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson opened the scoring with a second minute penalty goal but his Irish marker Ronan O'Gara responded. O'Gara landed two more and then while England lock Danny Grewcock was sin-binned, Ireland scored two tries.

The first came when inside-centre Gordon D'Arcy fed captain and centre Brian O'Driscoll clear and he fed fullback Girvan Dempsey in. Then flanker David Wallace crashed through an attempted tackle to score just before half-time.

England made team changes at half-time but it was O'Gara who put the first points up with another penalty goal.

England finally scored a try when wing David Strettle capped a good move but it was the last show of resistance as O'Gara added more points before his crosskick was taken by Shane Horgan to score and then halfback Isaac Boss intercepted an English pass to score.

Ireland 43

Tries: Dempsey, Wallace, Horgan, Boss

Con: O'Gara 4

This was a big victory for the irish ppl.

There was a tear in my eye when we clapped the playing of God Save the Queen. It was a monumental moment considering the occasion..

If you ont know what "the occasion" is / was look here..

Hopefully this will give Wales a better chance against England!. As long as we play like the start of the France match.....

yea. I think we may have a chance against england now. Especially as we're playing in cardiff.

    • I think the car analogy is more this: Left hand drive, basic commands on the left side of the infotainment screen. Right hand drive, basic commands on the right side of the infotainment screen. Granted, you're not swapping between the two often so it's doesn't really work. But it's to do with the proximity of you (your mouse, or the driver) to the controls.
    • I mean, the old one was broken and so stupidly complex for many users, so I don't see that as a feasible option. A context menu needs to be simple to use, and for me the Windows 11 style actually worked really well for me, and many others. I used to have to scroll the damn context menu just to get to "file properties" in Windows 10. That was not a good experience, and I'm sure you'd agree. What they're trying to do is make it the best of both worlds, as clearly you'd prefer the Win10 style. I'm curious how they're going to do this.
    • The "Show more options" has its place, as does the simpler context menu, but it should perhaps be a separate fly-out rather than relaunching the entire, old context menu. The old context menu was getting absurd in Windows 10. Often I'd have to make the context menu scroll just to get to "File properties" on my old laptop. Even without much installed, the amount of items was just too much. It's a context menu, not a "do all" menu. Making it configurable is fraught with challenges too, so I'm interested to see how Microsoft tackles this one.
    • I don't hate the new menus, I am not a fan of the lack of features and how they went live when they clearly are not complete. The menu itself presents much better than the previous - but what's lacking (IMO) is: 1) Any kind of automated manipulation such as: "this goes on the new menu because you use this feature more often on this filetype" "this is rarely used and will fall back to the old menu" 2) Any kind of user manipulation such as: "a UI to add/remove/order items to the new menu"
