You need to boot into the recovery console.

Then copy the file from the \i386 folder (i think it's called that).

You'll probably get an error about a missing HAL.DLL.

Search the forum, you might find the guide.

But if you just reinstalled XP, it'll just be easier to format the HDD and install it again.

It is a new HDD and when i put the instll disk in i boot it via the DVD-RW drive, this then give the option to press enter to continue but then the missing NTLDR comes up. I have reformatted the drive via a laptop but same issue. i dont have an option for the recovery console.

Hi,

Your issue can be one, or any combination of the below:

Computer is booting from a non-bootable source.

Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS.

Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file.

Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file.

Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32.

New hard disk drive being added.

Corrupt boot sector / master boot record.

Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable.

Bye
