family guy
I'm running Vista x64, but Nikon only has a RAW codec available for Vista x86. Can it be installed still? Or not? The software notes are here. Thanks! :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/544416-nikon-raw-codec/ Share on other sites
Veedems Veteran Posted March 8, 2007 Veteran Share Posted March 8, 2007 It should install though I'm not sure Windows will be able to use it to show previews in explorer (if it even does that with RAW files to begin with). ObiWanToby
The codec doesn't install for me, yet I need it to get installed. Photoshop and Windows Live Photo Gallery (which is 32bit so it should view correctly) would use it. Anyone know how to get this to install on 64bit forcefully, it tells me it will not install on this operating system. HawkMan
It should install though I'm not sure Windows will be able to use it to show previews in explorer (if it even does that with RAW files to begin with). yeah it does (slow as heck naturally) but the nikon codec has a built in block to prevent it to install on 64 bit. photoshop ifran and those don't need it of course, it purely for explorer, photoviewer/slideshow, and I guess WMP's picture thing... I've been waiting for a 64 bit release of the codec for a very long time now though, I've only heard rumors on other website topics on how Nikon has promised a release on some date that's long passed by now. neufuse Veteran Posted January 7, 2008 Veteran Share Posted January 7, 2008 It should install though I'm not sure Windows will be able to use it to show previews in explorer (if it even does that with RAW files to begin with). If he is talking about the Nikon NEF (RAW) codec then it will show previews in windows explorer... and it works in 64bit windows for me perfectly fine here... franzon
Windows Photo Gallery has a "check for updates" feature that will kick in when any of the above file formats are discovered. Photo Gallery will prompt you for a update that will enable the use of these RAW Image formats from these manufacturers. More codecs are expected to come online and will be available via Photo Gallery's update feature, just as these are today. http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsv...dows-vista.aspx Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/544416-nikon-raw-codec/#findComment-589119915 Share on other sites
