Draconian Guppy
wow, according to that list, Barcelona 4 core will cost $999 expensive if they plan to regain what they've lost to quad core imo... Quick question Who will have the greater upgradability, intel or amd. Eg. say I buy a c2d or am2x2 right now, lets say I want to upgrade just processor this time around next year, who will have the best/more choices in terms of upgrading CPU without having to buy a new mobo as well ? If you get a Socket 775 now you wont be able to use the new Quad Cores in it as they are all 1600FSB (And the max 775 now is 1333MHz offered by 680i) and running them in todays MoBos will downclock the chips or some mobos wont even detect the new chips is another possibility. But then you have to think AMD's AM2 platform, is it fast enough for Quads as they themselves are launching the new AM2+ which will have the newer faster HT bus. Even though the Quads will run on AM2 they won't be as fast as the ones placed in AM2+ motherboards. I guess really if you want a next-gen Quad Core (Barcelona or Penryn) you are going to need a new Motherboard on either platform to get the most out of it.
