Vista makes computer wake at random times

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

My problem is basically that. When I shutdown (that new cool sleep mode) my Windows Vista machine at night time for bed, it will wake up (scares the crap out of me) at random times. Last night it did it at 5:30am. The other night it was at 8:30am, but it will always wake up at some random time at night

I've turned off Wake on LAN. and wake on mouse movement but it still does it! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Disable wake from sleep in the mouse properties, via device manager. I had this same problem with standard sleep (not hybrid sleep).

I've already done this, and it's not the mouse moving that wakes the computer at 4am!

I wonder what could cause this, very annoying!

I have a similar issue, my pc wakes every 4 hours, so 12am, 4am, 8am etc, my pc is about 30cm from my head where i sleep but it's happens so much it doesn't wake me anymore :| It begun after i installed a tv card, and have tried everything to get it to stop but there is no logical reason for it waking up. Nor is it logged in event logs

I think Media Center optimizes itself sometime in the middle of the night too. Not sure exactly what optimizations it does though. I would just turn off the monitor if I were you and let your computer do its scheduled tasks. I'd rather they happen at night while I'm asleep than during the day when I need to use my computer.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ive read that the upcoming SP1 for Vista will have fixes for sleep mode and other power mangement problems. I wiped and reloaded my system 3 weeks ago. Sleep mode (w/o hibernate) worked fine for 2 weeks. Now every once in awhile the system will start up a few seconds after sleep, or several hours. Ive been able to tweak my system to reboot/shutdown quicky so I dont bother using sleep anymore.
