Philiwily
Last night when I was closing up shop and turned my computer on standbye, it didn't turn of when after it logged out and everything, so I pulled out the power cable and went to sleep (this has happened before). This morning, when I try to turn my computer on, before I get to the log on screen it just goes black. When I try to start in Safemod or anything else, it stops at a file called giveio.sys. I haven't installed any new hardware, software, or made any changes recently that might cause this. The computer has Speed Fan installed, which seems to affect giveio.sys. I tried to boot with the Windows CD in. After selecting to boot from the CD, it just goes right to the start prompt. So, booting from the CD isn't working right now either. Changing the BIOS to make the CD ROM boot first didn't work either. I tried using the Windows Floppy Disk boot thing, but unfortunatly, that only takes me to the recovery console. I can't access the XP CD because that seems to be inaccessible. My problem seems to be much like this one. RuudJacobs.NET
can't you use the recovery thing? just go a day back or so.. edit: disregard that, understood you wrong. there is this command to restore your mbr, that might work. Here's a link that might help. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/548602-cant-boot-windows-stops-at-giveiosys/#findComment-588420740 Share on other sites
Philiwily
The instructions on that site are a bit iffy. Do I just put the .exe on a floppy and run it at boot up? google123
I googled it and it keeps referring to the LPT port. If you don't have anything installed on the parallel port, disable it in your BIOS and see if that fixes the problem. Wilhelmus
When you are in the recovery console enter following: disable giveio then type exit to reboot. This should disable the giveio service. Philiwily
The system registry does not appear to have an active ControlSet key. The system registry may be damaged If your system is currently hont starting correctly, you can try restarting it with the Last Known Good configuration or you can try repairing the installiation of Windows using the setup program's repair and recovery options. The registry entry for the Mup.sys service cannot be located. Check that the name of the service is specified correctly. Edit: Great, now I have another problem. ntldr is missing.
