ady199
Guys, I'm trying to connect to IRC Servers using 'MIRC' - the program runs fine, but I have a feeling Windows Firwall is blocking he connection. Can anyone please tell me how I can configure Windows Firewall to allow connections from the MIRC client. Thanks in advance. +BudMan MVC Posted March 24, 2007 MVC Share Posted March 24, 2007 (edited) vista's firewall by default does not block IRC and or most any outbound connections.. But quite a few virus scanners/security suites will lock access to the irc ports 6667-6669 etc.. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,128834-c...rn/article.html Windows Vista's half-cocked firewall Outbound protection is…where? In an e-mail, Rowan Trollope, Vice President of Consumer Engineering at Symantec, offered this interpretation: "We have discovered that though Vista's outbound firewall is 'on' by default, all outbound connects that do not match a rule are allowed. In the default configuration, there are no outbound 'block' rules, only allow rules. In other words, even though [the Windows Firewall outbound protection is] on, it is not doing anything." What other software security type software are you running? You can verify what outbound ports are blocked by running wf.msc Edited March 24, 2007 by BudMan Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/548759-how-can-i-make-mirc-client-work-through-windows-firewall/#findComment-588422231 Share on other sites

I know for example the mcafee stuff blocks IRC ports by default.. So unless you told windows to block it the first time you fired up mirc.. then its something else blocking - I would guess your Norton..
