i've put those last things to do with modules aside for now because they were taking a bit of time to complete. right now i'm making improvements to our install script which is something else i need to complete before we go ahead with the new releases, and it's progressing really well.

OK following tweeks are in conflict :

Also tweks regarding improvements of IE6 like : stop IE reusing window, stop bad dns cashing, status bar ,etc ... are they working and needed for IE7?

Also disable avi preview .. is it related to OS or WM?

Also there is no need for powertoy open command window here, beacuse there is allready a tweak in tweaks section that does the same

Hi Angelico_Payne,

Well that explains why the Cleartype Tweaks never seem to work for me! :D

I had not realized that the "Prevent Effects Options From Being Greyed Out" was also clearing the ClearType options.

I hope the guys can fix this for AP XP 5.6 so it's not an issue in the future!

I have mentioned this issue before in earlier threads however I guess it was never important enough to fix in the build.

Kind Regards

Simon

@dzjepp, please report new updates in the pinned 'hotfix thread'

@Angelico_Payne & @PsiMoon314, i'll take a look at these when i can. i know you reported problems with the cleartype tweaks PsiMoon314, i still have entries about them in my todo file, i just never knew how to fix them till now ;)

Hi theblazingangel,

No problem, and no criticism intended.

It will be really good to see the next AP XP when it's released with or without the Cleartype fix.

Now we know what's causing it I can just add it to my list of personal modification's I make to AP before I use it on customers PC's.

Kind Regards

Simon

and wouldn't ya know it .... just when there's a light at the end of the tunnel... MS pops out .Net 3.5...

just to let you all know how i'm getting along with the new install script, it's looking really good right now, heres whats left to do:

1) see if date & language on welcome screen can easily be displayed in different languages

2) simplify code that checks for and applies updates to addon packs

3) sort out prerequisite checks

- can detect presence of previous / current release via rti files if month & year in the name

- with above impossible to allow installation of older on newer

- could do that with ini file to hold details

- however ini file could be over-written if someone manually copies and pastes releases on top of each other!

- what happens with '_v2'+ releases?

4) do we need admin privilege check for vista? - waiting for responce from gandolas!

#3 is something i really want to solve, but finding a good solution is a real problem

--

after thats done, i need to go back to those last few tasks with the modules, and then the releases themselves will be complete. then i have to update the documentation (may have to wait till after the release). then i need to improve the website, especially the download section so it can offer all the different releases and make it clear to users what they need to download.

i've also got my practical driving test in six days which is really really worrying me now, because i've been working so hard on all this i haven't done any practice or extra lessons (besides the ones i did last year when i failed the test) :(

edit: damn, i'm so tired that i just accidentally deleted the download page from the website, so lucky that i had a backup, i think i better go to bed...

Is a allready stated its no hurry, and take it slowly.

I would be free to say that i am prepared to wait for May full if it is what it takes, esspecially with all this new changes implementations.

I myself have also been redesigning my project Metamorphosys, and although AP is big part of it, i have compiled a quick full from all the updates, which can serve as quick fix atm.

By doing further testing i have concluded that by doing AP after the installation of windows, i loose from 1.5-1.9 hours per instalation, (recommended, critical and components take all that time, while adons and tweak take aprox. 5-10 mins). So by injecting these modules directly in setup files via nlite or some other inegration method i will gain a considerable boost, which is one of the 3 goals of the project.

I would offer my help with project, but lately i hardly sleep at all cause of lack of time and amount of work to be done. I promised to do localisation for serbian & croatian version, and i will keep my word, but i will have free time probably in early July, after exams. From investigation i made, i concluded that interest in croatian localisation is somewhat greater then in serbian, but i will have to meet up with some of my colleges working in wholesale and corporate retail companies to get the whole picture.

Also until SP3 comes out, which will probably be end of year-mid half 08, problem of bandwith will be increasing for AP project, so we have to find a solution for uploading and distributing more efficiently. Esspecially since interest in AP project has spiked more then every in history of the project.

Did anyone consider contacting Microsoft about using their resources doing this? I think it would be in their interest to help us, since they could easily consider this an offline part of Windows update project. I think we should seriously consider this and contact them with preposition.

Regarding tweaks : i found this missmatch in cleartype since while I was excluding tweak patches from AP module installation. It is much more quicker to simple open up all tweaks u want to implement with Notepad and simply copy all the tweaks u want into one .reg file, which can be installed in less then 1 sec. And since tweaks dont change so rapidly u just merge them manually or by regedit /s switch or by making custom ap module. Anyway u will get better installation time.

I wanted to say something else, but since its 6.21am here... i forgot :)

P.S. I hope u wont run over any babies and grandmas while doing the driving test :) , i dont think they acknowledge working on AP project as valid legal bases for reducing sentence :D

A question about this tweak

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop]
"UserPreferencesMask"=hex:30,10,00,80
"FontSmoothingType"=dword:00000002
"FontSmoothing"="2"

is it supposed to go to .DEAFULT or to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] , since there are both values in those both keys, and i dont know if they control same things?

Also can someone tell me if those IE tweak are nessesary with this IE7?

Ok in middle of watching tv i remembered :D

This is a current set of tweaks I use for neo computers, they both optimize XP experiance with some old win2000 stuff such as clasic search panel, fix some reported bottlenecks such as max connections, and give a speed up feeling such as menu speed 0 (instatant openening when menu browsing),some additional functionallity such as add/remove programs and other shotcuts on My computer icon,... later i will improve more it by some graphic related tweaks that speed up responsivness of the OS.

Any thought, ideas or improvements are appreciated. I will probably finish up final version after installing vmware and getting regmon or some newer systernalys tool to monitor changes in registry after i change things manually in OS.

Also for all system buiders and implementors ... there is AR8Lite_Extreme.exe version of Adobe reader 8, with all pre setup uped, u can find it on msfn forum. I dont know how legal is that but i will be making it into ap module later on so it is installed with other basics since its an essential.

A sub 2Mb pdf reader

That doesn't actually need to be installed

That doesn't load 100,000 plugins at start up

That opens a pdf immediately, even the first time

That allows you to red line and annotate pdf's and allows you to save them

And costs nothing

And is totally legal

Don't know why people are still using AAR since there is:

Which one is that?

@MazX_Napalm in foxit reader, the save with annotation is for trial not free. quote from the foxit site:

Foxit Reader Pro Pack is not free. It unlocks functions to save annotation, save a PDF document as a text file, copy text from text viewer. Actually without Pro Pack, you are still able to annotate a PDF document and print it out. However when you save the annotated document, it will be stamped with an evaluation mark on the top-right corner of the annotated pages. If you purchase a Pro Pack add-on, then there will be no evaluation mark.

i'll stick with Adobe Reader.

theres a freeware program called Adobe Reader SpeedUp that will modify AR startup so not all plugins are loaded.

Adobe Reader SpeedUp

Ok, it does stamp it.

As a pure reader, it beats the socks off AAR's bloatware.

AAR Setup

Download 20Mb file (5mins average?)

Or get it off a cover disc

Install 5 minutes?

Download AAR Speedup (seconds)

Install , I don't know, never used it.

Say 10 minutes to get it up and running. This excludes any updates.

Foxit Setup:

Download 1.7Mb file (about 1 min?)

Or get it off a cover disc

Install 1 minute?

Or if you downloaded the .zip (1.9Mb) use the 3.9Mb .exe and just run the app without installing anything on the computer

So maybe 3 minutes in total to get it all up and running.

To update, either use the built in auto update or just download the latest version which will be under 2Mb again. AAR7 updates ranged from 1.2 - 27Mb.

I'm not saying that you have to use AAR or Foxit. I'm just saying that Foxit is less of a pain in the butt, is more flexable and has some features that AAR doesn't. AAR does have some features that Foxit doesn't like Ctrl+Scroll Wheel for zooming.

iv'e considered having a second pdf reader but find adobe reader runs quick enough, that on a pc thats quite old..450MHz celeron. adobe have a new pdf reader in development, url here:

http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/digitaleditions/

the interface takes a bit of getting used to. its not a replacement for adobe reader just a slimmer version.

Acctualy adobe reader is much faster now, esppecialy extreme edition that has been "hacked".

Also it installs in under 10 seconds. beacuse it has been repackaged from original FEAD optimizer crap.

In version acrobat 7 i migrated to Foxit pdf reader, beacuse of speed of installation and opening od pdf.

Now adobe is as fast as foxit.. it is also free to use for pdf viewing (as far as i know).

And foxit had issues with printing documents and viewing some adobe created pdf files, and i allways used the latest.

Foxit is great pdf reader, and does not require real installation ( u can execute from any folder, even use switch to e.g. open file with a command promt line) but besides that and its small size, adobe is now superior, esspecially for end users, which i was reffering to. I use both, depending of a task.

glutton4sw thax for info :)

**offtopic. Is it better to buy P1 or P2 computer and do linux on it, or buy CISCO or some hardware firewall instead? It will be used as firewall/proxy/cacher

Does it matter if it does. After all, Microsoft has turned out some pretty crappy patches recently.

There are only a few patches anyway, so downloading is not a chore.

Blaze is working as hard as he can and I think the wait will be worthwhile.

I think he needs a few pints of beer to refresh the brain cells.

However, some browsers resist this change, and Opera issued a statement that it will allow users to continue using MV2 extensions for as long as possible. While Microsoft is still not ready to share new details about MV2 extensions in Microsoft Edge, the company shared important details about the way it will be updating the browser going forward. There is also nice build quality and a quite affordable price. Pulasthi Ariyasinghe reviewed 007 First Light. The game turned out to be a satisfying spy adventure in the James Bond universe with great gunplay and combat, impressive crowds, over-the-top action sequences, and more. • Microsoft Flight Simulator's City Update 15 enhances Midwest cities by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The third major city update of the year has landed for the original Microsoft Flight Simulator and the 2024 release. The latest drop is upgrading the visuals and regional accuracy of three metropolitan regions in the American states of Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The 15th city update is adding eight new areas of interest that have been enhanced with high-fidelity TIN (triangulated irregular network) surface texturing in the mentioned regions. The free update highlights Chicago, Elgin, Cicero, and Arlington Heights in Illinois, as well as Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, Duluth, Brooklyn Park, Woodbury, Lakeville, Plymouth, and Blaine in Minnesota. In Wisconsin, the development has also upgraded the lands and buildings of Milwaukee, Madison, and Racine. The update lands just as one of the world's largest enthusiast flight simulation conventions, FlightSimExpo, kicks off in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 14. The Flight Sim development team's 40-minute keynote at the event can be watched here. At the same time, Microsoft is bringing the 6-seat, single-engine, multi-use light civil airplane Piper M600 into the game as a part of its Expert Series 2 program. This premium plane can be purchased from the in-game marketplace for $24.99. City Update 15: The United States Midwest is now available in Microsoft Flight Simulator, as well as the newer Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, as an optional download. It can be accessed across Steam and the Microsoft Store for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, as well as Xbox and PC Game Pass subscriptions. Xbox One, mobile, and PC players can also jump into the new content using Xbox Cloud Gaming if they have a Game Pass Ultimate membership. The game must be updated to the latest version to download this free update from the in-game marketplace.
    • Five things you might have missed during Apple's WWDC 2026 by Aditya Tiwari Image: Apple Apple's annual developer event, WWDC 2026, happened from June 8 through June 12. We have already covered several new features and updates that the iPhone maker unveiled during the official keynote. Apple took Google's help and finally announced the upgraded Siri AI personal assistant, which now comes with an app. Moreover, a truckload of Apple Intelligence features took the center stage. That said, this year's WWDC is a bit different, and you might have noticed or missed the following stuff: Apple's ongoing unification of platforms Image: Apple One thing Apple is widely known for is its seamless hardware-software ecosystem. The company added a new chapter in 2020, when it began the Apple Silicon transition and launched macOS 11 Big Sur with native ARM support. Some major changes happened last year as well, when Apple renamed all of its operating systems to version 26 and introduced the Liquid Glass design language. Until WWDC 2025, Apple keynotes had dedicated segments for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and other operating systems, in which the company discussed each in detail. The WWDC 2026 keynote was different, and Apple allotted most of the screen time to Apple Intelligence and Siri. It didn't even publish separate press releases on its website for different operating systems. While it might seem surprising at first, it shows how Apple plans to move forward with its software ecosystem. Be it the Liquid Glass changes, child safety updates, or other features, they are mostly rolling out across multiple platforms. In other words, Apple is slowly blurring the line between its operating systems and achieving feature parity wherever possible. It's easy to rule out that someone in Apple's marketing team forgot to press the publish button. Everything is a calculated move when it comes to a company like Apple. Putting Apple Intelligence left, right, and center hints that the OS itself is no longer the product anymore. It's Siri, not Pepsi Time and again, various Apple products have been compared to unrelated things and turned into meme material. You might have heard about the "cheese grater" Mac Pro or the "trash can" Mac Pro, to name a few. It's Siri's turn this time. The upgraded AI assistant got a fresh logo, and people have started comparing it with Pepsi. There are other contenders, such as the Sony Ericsson logo and the Yin and Yang symbol. Shot on iPhone. Edited on Mac Image: Apple Apple has been putting the iPhone's camera muscles to the test on various occasions. Even NASA astronauts took it to Space earlier this year and captured some out-of-this-world photos. Recently, Apple TV streamed the first major live sporting event shot entirely on iPhone 17 Pro: an MLS match featuring the LA Galaxy vs. the Houston Dynamo FC. The 'Pro' iPhone has also been used to shoot Apple events in recent years. It's "Scary Fast" Mac event in 2023 was among the earliest attempts, and the tradition trickled down to the WWDC 2026 keynote, which ended with the tag line "Shot on iPhone. Edited on Mac." It's unsurprising to see Apple flexing the camera capabilities of its Pro models, especially when it has been baking professional-grade features, including ProRes RAW and Genlock. Hints for the foldable Apple has been sitting on the foldable iPhone for so long. There is still confusion over when the company will make it official. A recent report said that the iPhone Fold might get delayed as Apple is struggling to perfect its hinge mechanism. But Apple has been dropping hints here and there. A developer dug into the iOS 27 beta code and found internal references about device folding states. As verified by Macworld, the code includes references to "foldState" and "angleDegrees" internal status values, which are apparently designed to tell apps if a device is folded and at what angle. As of now, no other Apple device uses these states. The publication also found internal code suggesting Apple has been testing a device with both Touch ID and Dynamic Island, a combo that doesn't exist today. Last event as Apple CEO Image: Apple Tim Cook's bond with Apple is now almost three decades old, having started in 1998 as the SVP of Worldwide Operations. Back in August 2011, Steve Jobs stepped down as Apple CEO months before his passing, and Cook took charge. Now, the baton has been passed to the hardware chief, John Ternus, who will take over the role on September 1. WWDC 2026 is the last major Apple Event for Tim Cook as CEO. We have seen so much during Cook's tenure over the years, much of which defines Apple as we know it today. From new hardware product lines like Apple Watch, AirPods, Apple Vision Pro, and Apple Silicon, to boosting Apple's services business with Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Pay, Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+, Apple Care One, and more. That said, the first developer betas for Apple's latest operating systems are now available. You can check if your device is supported on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, and other platforms. What's your favorite feature that Apple announced this year at WWDC 2026? Tell us in the comments.
