converting .avi to play on psp but with adding a .srt file

Recommended Posts

hi

i have a korean dvd i want to put on my psp

so i downloaded it because i dont have a dvd drive

and it has the .avi movie, and a .srt file for the subtitles

if i open the movie with VLC media player, it plays with no subtitles, but if i drag and drop the english .srt file into the player, the english subtitles appear

how to i make a file that will play on the psp and also show the english subtitles?

(if this is posted in wrong section, please move)

thanks

the media players on both the PSP and PS3 do NOT support the mp4 container to the spec. I've tried using various methods (from command line tools to GUI-tools) to convert files and adding a subtitle file in the container - it wil NOT play.

Your only option is to hardcore the subtitles into the videofile using software like VirtualDub or something, then encode it to something the PSP likes... but the method you describe "just dragging and dropping" isn't possible on the PSP - mainly because you can't drag and drop, and even if you could - you're PSP wouldn't be able to since the mp4 format isn't 100% correctly supported.

You could also check out videohelp.com and doom9.org, they've got some better info :) and probably broken the above down better so everyone can understand ^^
