Using Windows Live Mail desktop with Windows Contacts?

Recommended Posts

Is there a way for Windows Live Mail desktop to use Vista's Windows Contacts when I click to select mail recipients? I have all my contacts details in Windows Contacts (imported from XP's Address Book). FYI, I don't want to import all the contacts into Windows Live Messenger in order to use it in WLMd. How to integrate WLMd with Windows Contacts?

Edit: What happens if you open the contacts part of WLMd and then select 'import>address book for current windows user'. I'm guessing it'll create duplicates in Vista's contacts, but it should get all your contacts into WLMd without much trouble. Also, after you've imported them into WLMd, if you open WLM and click on Tools>Options>Security> and then untick 'Encrypt contact list data.....' your contacts (that are now in WLMd) should also appear in Vista's contacts, in a folder that's named after your email account.

I hope that isn't too confusing

You can hide email contacts in WLM by selecting Contacts>Filter contacts>Show Messenger contacts only (if it's contact list clutter that's putting you off importing them)

I've tried importing Address Book (back in XP) into WLMd and I didn't like it cos after that, WLM has all the non-Messenger contacts (WLMd and WLM shares the same list). It's a bit pain-in-the-you-know-where to have all the non-Messenger contacts in WLM (messy) and making starting/loading of WLM unbearable. I prefer a separate, dedicated list for Windows Contacts and WLM/WLMd.

Anyway, back to my original question - Is there a way for Windows Live Mail desktop to use Vista's Windows Contacts? A registry hack, maybe?

Well, that would defeat my purpose of not wanting to import all Windows Contacts into WLM. I know do know of WLM's "show messenger contacts only" feature but it's gonna be be taxing (slow starting/loading of WLM) if I were to import all Windows Contacts (98% of which are non-messenger contacts) :(

Ah I see. Sorry then David I can't help you on that one :-(

I don't actually think it is possible yet. It mght be planned for future versions when it is out of beta, or you could suggest it at http://feedback.live.com

Or somebody else might know how to do it if it is possible?

I posted this awhile ago in Windows Live Mail's newgroup. I think it may help others as well:

For those of you who just want to use Vista Contacts and don't like the integration of Windows Live Mail contacts and Vista contacts, you can try this little trick. This also avoids creation of contacts unnecessary at "C:\Users\<your-user-name>Contacts" and

"C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Contacts" folders and having them at-sync.

- Remove "<your-email-address>" and "Default" folder from "C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Contacts" folder

- Fire up Command Prompt in administrative mode and navigate to "C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Contacts" folder

- Create a symbolic link (directory) called "Default" to your Vista contacts folder: mklink /d Default "C:\Users\<your-user-name>\Contacts"

- Fire up Windows Live Mail, create a new e-mail, type your contact e-mail addresses and pat yourself at the back for the success :)

Make sure you disable auto-login to Live Messenger and stop signing into Live ID using Live Mail option. Let me know if it works for you.

    • Here is a list of Samsung Galaxy watches that won't be supported after September 2025 by Sayan Sen Samsung Gear S3 Samsung has confirmed that support for its Tizen-powered smartwatches will officially end in September 2025. The decision marks the final phase of a gradual wind-down process that began last year and reflects the company’s strategic shift toward its Wear OS–powered devices from its own in-house Tizen. If you recall, the South Korean giant began moving away from it back in 2021. The phase-out started on September 30, 2024, when the Galaxy Store stopped offering paid content for Tizen devices. This was followed by another key deadline on May 31, 2025, when new downloads of free Tizen content were disabled. Finally, by the end of September 2025 later this year, users will no longer be able to re-download any previously purchased content via the Galaxy Store. At the time, Samsung had shared the following timeline in an official "Tizen Watch Service Termination Schedule" notice as it wrote: While Samsung has not specified the list of affected wearable devices that will no longer receive Tizen support after September 2025, the following products are likely to be getting the axe: Galaxy Gear Series Samsung Galaxy Gear (Original model) Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 Samsung Gear S3 Classic Samsung Gear S3 Frontier Galaxy Watch Series (Tizen-based) Samsung Galaxy Watch (First Generation / Galaxy Watch 1) Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 Thus, devices launched after the Galaxy Watch3, including the Galaxy Watch4 series and subsequent models, are built on Wear OS and remain unaffected by this transition. On the flip side, Samsung is not planning to switch to Google TV for its TVs, as these still come preloaded with its own Tizen OS, and even offer seven years of support.

Western Digital, for example, is offering its 4TB SN8100 (PCIe 5.0) and SN7100 (PCIe 4.0) drives for the lowest prices. Team Group also has its 4TB G50 for just $200 but only for a few more hours. If you need a 2TB Gen4 option then check out Crucial's T500 that is available for just $125, the lowest it has been in over a year (purchase links down below). Both the heatsink and non-heatsink variants are discounted so you can pick and choose. The T500 promises speeds of 7400 MB/s and 7000 MB/s in terms of sequential reads and sequential writes. In terms of random throughputs, the T500 claims reads of 1180K IOPS (input output operations per second) and writes of 1440K IOPS. These high random speeds are thanks to the Phison PS5025-E25 controller that packs 2GB LPDDR4-4266 DRAM cache. Thus the drive will not need to access system memory for caching and other purposes. The Crucial B500 features Micron B58R FortisFlash 232-layer TLC (triple level cell) NAND flash memory with an endurance rating of 1200 TBW (terabytes written). • I'm waiting for windows 12. They will probably release it next year. By that point they might have moved all of control panel over to the settings app which would be nice.
