Elliot B.
We have to write an essay as part of our course and one of the chapters to be included is "Assimilation of learning and discussion about potential future development of practise". Any idea what that means? What would I write in it? :s Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/551652-what-does-assimilation-mean/ Share on other sites

Veedems Veteran Posted April 6, 2007 Veteran Share Posted April 6, 2007 So then you look up the meaning of assimilate: 1. to take in and incorporate as one's own; absorb: He assimilated many new experiences on his European trip.2. to bring into conformity with the customs, attitudes, etc., of a group, nation, or the like; adapt or adjust: to assimilate the new immigrants. HydroPonic
www.google.comwww.dictionary.com ^ there. lol. Resistance is Futile... 1. assimilation, relationship usage: the state of being assimilated; people of different backgrounds come to see themselves as part of a larger national family 2. assimilation, absorption, social process usage: the social process of absorbing one cultural group into harmony with another Apply that to education and you get Assimilation of Education or the different methods of teaching coming together as one process. lol Whatever, I make no sense. Assimilation is... well... perfection ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/551652-what-does-assimilation-mean/#findComment-588455115 Share on other sites
Hum
 I suppose it means how much what you learn in school becomes a part of you, and how you will make use of the knowledge in your future. Educators don't just want you to memorize facts, long enough to pass a test -- but rather use the knowledge in life to improve yourself. Of course, just how you improve yourself is up to you. ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/551652-what-does-assimilation-mean/#findComment-588455117 Share on other sites
zivan56
"Assimilation of learning" sounds like it implies changing the way people from other cultures learn. Sounds like a report on how to educate newcomers to "learn" properly so that they can integrate into the education system. Although it may have a different meaning in British English... +Fulcrum Subscriber¹ Posted April 6, 2007 Subscriber¹ Share Posted April 6, 2007 Um, so, does that mean no1 ^ knows? ^_^ I'm no historian, but when I think of the word "assimilation", the one thing that comes to mind is WAR! It's forcing one's culture on another. Like someone mentioned the Borg, well the Romans did a lot of assimilation of all those they conquered. I looked it up anyway and found assimilation now extends voluntary cultural absorption, i.e Immigrants come to the United States and get assimilated into our culture: workaholicism, fashion, music taste, etc. So I did learn something too! With the Internet and other Technology, assimilation is no longer restricted, that is music videos and other broadcasts can be a cause.
