PCI Simple Communications Controller in Vista Problem

Recommended Posts

I can't locate drivers, in fact I don't even know what this PCI Simple Communications Controller is. I searched online and found discussions about XP but none for Vista. Any updates? Thanks

that is normally a modem

you could try and uninstalling it and rebooting and see what happens.

used to get that on my lappy and wouldnt pick it up straight away as it has done so when ya reboot it normally picks it up or it did in xp anyway

It also could not find drivers for it and now says my USB Human Interface has outdated drivers. I will try to disable it, but it will still make me wonder what is wrong with it. Thx

Right click on it, select properties, select the Details tab then make sure "Device Instance Id" is selected from the drop-down menu. Make a note of this long string of characters and try googling it, for example my NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator has an ID of PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0057&SUBSYS_CB8410DE&REV_A3\3&2411E6FE&0&50, which is identified in the third result from Google. If the whole string doesn't work, try chopping bits of it off until you get a result, like try checking the bits in between the backslashes

Here's mine PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29A4&SUBSYS_505A107B&REV_02\3&18D45AA6&0&18 and I will do that, thank you for the suggestion.

EDIT: I found a topic by removing the last part, and it showed:

System Devices

--------------

Name: Intel® Management Engine Interface

Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29A4&SUBSYS_505A107B&REV_02\3&61AAA01&0&18

Driver: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\HECI.sys, 2.00.0015.1110 (English), 6/19/2006 16:18:56, 43264 bytes

I will begin checking Intel's site for this driver. Very weird.

Thank you Nick for the great suggestion!! I downloaded the Intel Engine and it worked, the PCI vanished and it now shows up as a "Intel Management Engine" not sure what that does, but glad it's fixed. Again thank you very much. :D

If anyone else has Vista with the same problem, the driver is: http://drivers.softpedia.com/public/drivers/11-1469.shtml

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRI...-20181118.shtml

I don't know what it is, but heres one description I could find (I wouldn't download it, It could even be unrelated.. haha)

You think downloading that ruined my system? It did work and no problems, I already restarted and still good.

I also just installed Vista without as far as I know, without any installation errors. I then made the mistake of trying to see if Vista would recognize my Epson Scanner which it wouldn't do because of no Vista driver support for it from Epson.

After blowing out of that installation attempt, I started getting this "PCI Simple Communcations Controller" error with a "?" mark in Device Manager.

I tried reverting to the Vista installation before I messed around with the scanner, but still get the error message. Re the above file, I tried that without success also. I tried running the file and also pointing Vista to it without success.

FWIW, in device manager, I do not see a "modem" listed even though I have a PCI modem in the computer.

Although at this time, this error doesn't seem to effect me much, I HATE to see error messages pop up and would like for fix this problem very much if possible

Post a screenshot of the error and follow Nick's info (i.e. Right click on it, select properties, select the Details tab then make sure "Device Instance Id" is selected from the drop-down menu.) Post the info we can assist you, otherwise unable to. Thanks.

The copy of Vista I'm using is Ultimate and I think maybe the legends are slightly different. In doing the above procedure, the closest option is "Device Instance Path" which reports the following string...

PCI\VEN_14F1&DEV_1033&SUBSYS_0ABF1092&REV_89\4&5C2F873&0&18F0

I've tried everything or almost everything in this thread to correct this error. The screenshot of the error is the same as the first post in this thread.

When I first noticed this error, I thought it might have something to do with my PCI modem since no modem was found in the Device Manager. I have since gone through the Add Hardware procedure and was able to "install" the modem with the manual procedure in that section. Auto selection didn't work. However, I still have this PCI... error.

I bought the computer at Fry's (Fry's name on it) and I doubt they will be able to fix this error although I'm going down there today and ask them about it.

Everything else about the Vista installation seems to work fine on the computer and since I access the Internet with a cable modem, I have no present need for a dial-up modem. My phone service is via Comcast also and I believe it's similar to Vonage which I haven't been able to make a dial-up connection with anyway. My only use for a dial-up modem is faxing.

Even if I have to stick with occasionally seeing this error, I think I'll leave Vista on the computer since it seems to run faster than XP Pro and I have to admit, I do like EYE CANDY.

Re the above post, I just removed the modem from the computer and rebooted. No error! I'm wondering if I replace the modem with another one, if the error will return? From my scanning several posts on the 'net about this problem, I've seen several statements that this "PCI Simple..." error is NOT related directly to a modem.

I also have Vista Ultimate. I ran a search for you, and found:

--------------

System Devices

--------------

Name: Generic 56K HCF Data Fax Modem

Device ID: PCI\VEN_14F1&DEV_1033&SUBSYS_0ABF1092&REV_89\3&61AAA01&0&58

Driver: n/a

Try http://www.radarsync.com/vista/ and install it. It will detect what driver(s) you need. It looks like the manufacturer is HCF (http://www.conexant.com/support/md_driverassistance.html) try that site for any modems, I didn't see Vista so try XP. That may cure it.

Thanks for the help. Before I was able to give Justin Time's solution a chance, I decided to try replacing the modem with a new one. A $20 fix that worked! I couldn't find a modem that said it supported Vista, so I bought one that supported XP. After replacing the modem, I had the same error. I then installed the driver that came with the unit an the error "PCI Simple..." went BYE-BYE.

I would suggest anyone else having this same problem try this solution IF they can't find a driver that works with their modem and Vista.

I still find it hard to believe that MS would release Vista in a form that would not support a generic modem. My system is now running great and so far, I like Vista a lot. Definitely much faster accessing the internet. While I'm definitely not a techie, it seems to me that Vista has cut out some of the code that gets run when hitting the IE icon. The internet pops up in a instant where before, it seems to take anywhere from 3-5 seconds or more.

Hi,

I don't know if this will help someone but it happened to me when I formatted my hardrive. I fixed it by clicking on the device panel, other devices, then click on the pci, when it asks to search for a driver make sure it searches all of the c:\ drive by typing it in the box. Mine was looking for it in c:\documents not the entire c drive. Seems too simple but it worked after it searched the whole c:\ drive. I am now back online. I have a gateway gt5449e. Just incase someone has this problem. Might be useful.

I have a Gateway GM5424 with an Intel motherboard, a G965 series. Which G965 motherboard exactly I do not know. My computer is a dual boot between Vista Ultimate x86 and Vista Ultimate x64.

Vista Ultimate x86 works fine.

Vista Ultimate x64 gives me the same error as JustinTime has.

PCI Simple Communications Controller

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29A4&SUBSYS_505A107B&REV_02

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29A4&SUBSYS_505A107B

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29A4&CC_078000

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29A4&CC_0780

I can not find the correct driver. I am very computer savy and tried googling and the intel website.

Tried :

Intel's HECI_allOS_2.1.22.1033_PV

IT FAILED

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRI...-20181118.shtml Is a dead link

Please Help.

    • That's not clickbait. Clickbait is headlines like, "You'll never guess what this person looks like now" for example. For goodness sake, take a look around the internet if you think this is clickbait. How do sites survive if people don't click through to articles? How many people in all honesty would have clicked this if it had your suggested headline? You and those upvoting your post won't be happy until the web is a couple of hundred websites all behind a paywall.

    • Or use Epic games and get full games for free. lol Steam and their demos. Thankfully there’s competition
    • Maybe I missed it, but does this say anywhere that the game save bug has been squashed? I haven't encountered it myself, but it would be nice to know I'm good to go. Anyway, amazingly well done game. Mostly more of the same. ...but when the same is best in class with improved graphics and features, then a win.
    • Well when your game flops, you should expect this. If I do bad at work, I would expect a layoff. Less than 1600 people played it on steam. https://steamdb.info/app/1934570/charts/
