Known issues:

- None at the moment. :)

UPDATE 5: (16/4 - 2007)

- Captionbar height changed to 18. This fixes the "top resize" problem. This also moves the captionbuttons a bit closer.

- Scrollbuttons edge color made a bit darker. (Against the rules. It should have the same color as the 3dshadow, but they can be hard to see if you have an extremely bright monitor.)

- LargeFonts setting uses Tahoma 8 as an option. ExtraLargeFont uses Tahoma 10 as an option.

- TaskBand positioning fix.

- Blank shellstyle included.

UPDATE 4: (15/4 - 2007)

-Somehow the msstyle file didn't get updated yesterday. Download the theme again!

UPDATE 3: (14/4 - 2007)

-Message box borders fixed.

-GradientActiveCaption etc changed to blue.

-Font size 2 now uses Tahoma 8 instead of 9.

-Scrollbar changes. Size set to 15 and ThumbGripper image removed.

-Other minor fixes.

UPDATE 2: (13/4 - 2007)

-Group button fixed.

-Scrollshaft made a bit darker.

-Other minor fixes.

-Wallpaper included.

Just thought I'll help you fix sysbutton and caption title bugs.

If you have left 1 pixel high horizontal transparent line on top of your caption image, set the sizing margins in a way that only that part is resized. For example, if your caption is 24 pixel high and the image is 25 pixel in height, set the top margin to '0' and bottom margin to '25' this will only resize the transparent part of the image.

Next, experiment with caption bar height property and apply the theme after every change to see if you got the caption title and sysbutton where you wanted. After a while, you'll know yourself which height value works best.

This will not resize the caption bar but position the title text and sysbutton where you want :)

Known issues:

- You can't resize windows from the top.

This is what I did for my personal SlanXP2 mod:

I have set the "CaptionbarHeight" in

Normal > Substitution

LargeFonts > Substitution

ExtraLarge > Substitution

to "18" instead of "20"

now I can resize from top.

It seems you have decreased the CaptionbarHeight even more for this VS so I don't know if it will work but you could try.

I think 18 is the mininum value to chose without causing other glitches and bugs

nice VS btw

Very nice as your previous work,I just hate this color:

untitledig3.jpg

If it was white,or light grey it would've been perfect. That brownish/cream is bad.

That's what I hate most about the normal WinXP style. It looks old.

I'm using PlainVS atm, wanted to switch but that "brown" stopped me.

Thanks for using my idea on DeviantART about the SysButton/Font bug. I have found more bugs:

flumbugdr8.jpg

This is a grouped button. The left side is all wonky and in other themes I have seen the color of the number of grouped windows be change. I know crap about theme making but I hope some of the other people may be able to point out the value to change.

//edit

also, what are the fonts used in each of the 'Font Size' options? I would like to tweak the theme to show the name of the font.

:)

Several things are now fixed. Except for the 2 known issues.

Tahoma 8 added to the Large Fonts option. :)

UPDATE 3: (14/4 - 2007)

-Message box borders fixed.

-GradientActiveCaption etc changed to blue.

-Font size 2 now uses Tahoma 8 instead of 9.

-Scrollbar changes. Size set to 15 and ThumbGripper image removed.

-Other minor fixes.

Good news! But font size 2 still uses Tahoma 9 alot, for taskbar, menus and icon's names

i think font > 8 should be used for Caption Bars ;(

also scrollbars are 16px .. u sure u updated the file at dev.art?

no i think not .. msstyle "date modified" is still 13.04.2007

I tought the scrollbar brightness was fixed in the 2nd update. Maybe I should make them a bit sharper in the next update. :p

At the moment though I'm wondering about a thing about the Captionbars. I'm thinking about fixing the top resize bug.

How can I decrease the height of the captionbars to 18 without making the captionbuttons switch to the smallest alternative? How does this work? (Bar height + captionbutton size)

  • 5 years later...

I hope someone sees this, but i'm trying to customize one of lassekongo83's great xp themes and the caption buttons no longer will sit next to each other! All i tried to do was make the close button longer and now not even the minimize button will sit next to the maximize one. Would someone PLZ explain to me how to position the caption buttons in stylebuilder? No matter what i try the buttons won't get next to each other, they are spaced unequally apart. Does the imagefile dictate this measurement somehow ?

    • Louis Rossmann suing Samsung over "990 Pro SSD warranty scam" by Sayan Sen Back in 2023, if you recall, Neowin reviewer Robbie Khan had a dispute with Samsung over his 990 Pro SSD, which was rapidly losing its health. After significant back and forth, the tech giant had finally released firmware to "stop" the issue. Interestingly, its previous flagship at the time, the 980 Pro was also facing problems leading to two consecutive sets of firmware fixes. Three years later, it looks like a similar conflict has now broken out between tech repair entrepreneur YouTuber Louis Rossmann and Samsung, as it has escalated into a threatened lawsuit after the company allegedly refused to appropriately replace a failing 990 Pro SSD that remained under warranty. According to Rossmann, a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro NVMe SSD purchased for approximately $330 less than two years ago, began experiencing major hiccups and issues, even though he claims it had been operated under ideal cooling conditions. It was installed in a RAID 1 array and cooled by a heatsink and dual high-speed fans. However the drive reportedly started dropping out of the array, exhibiting controller-level failures that eventually became not useable in any meaningful way. Rossmann said Samsung’s support process was marked by delays and confusion from the very start. After initially contacting the wrong regional support channel, he was redirected to Samsung’s memory support division where he submitted detailed diagnostics, logs, and proof of purchase. Rossmann runs a repair company and owns an ACE Lab PC-3000 machine, which is a professional-grade data recovery equipment. As such, he had been confident in his diagnostics. Samsung even seemingly acknowledged that later. Regardless, Rossmann claims that his initial support ticket was automatically closed before a full 24-hour response window had elapsed, forcing him to reopen the case and resubmit documentation. The controversy however intensified further from here after Samsung accepted the drive for warranty evaluation but later returned it with a repair report stating that the drive had passed its testing and that the SSD had been verified as functional. Rossmann strongly disputed those claims citing that his own independent testing on PC-3000 showed write speeds reducing to as low as 40–60 MB/s before the drive failed entirely. Samsung subsequently informed him that the SSD had been reset and reflashed, passing internal stress tests. However, the company also stated that replacement units were unavailable due to an industry-wide memory shortage and suggested that a refund process could be initiated if further testing confirmed the fault. Thus, to settle, the company offered a refund of $330, the amount that was initially paid by him to make the purchase. Here, Rossmann pointed out the seeming hypocrisy of the tech giant as in how no Samsung drive was apparently allocated for warranty replacements, but they were abundantly available for retail sales especially when using business accounts. As you can see, Rossmann is indeed right, there are Samsung 990 Pro 4TB SSDs on Amazon currently for $950 (shipped and sold by first-party Amazon US itself), and they are also available on Samsung's own store too, albeit for an even higher price of $1100. Thus Rossmann argues that Samsung’s inability or unwillingness to provide a replacement while the same model remains available for purchase at significantly higher market prices reflects a failure to honor its warranty obligations. He has issued a formal 60-day notice and says he intends to file suit in Texas small claims court, asserting that companies should face greater costs for denying legitimate warranty claims than for fulfilling them. You can check out the full video titled "Samsung's 990 Pro SSD warranty policy is a scam; I'm taking them to court," at the link below. • Was it too much to ask to show the icon in this article?
    • Frankly, I blame whoever is writing such articles. "A big improvement/update and/or new feature is now available to everyone! Also, use this unofficial tweak tool to enable it because it actually isn't available to you yet officially and might not in fact even be entirely ready or whatever, hence why it is perhaps not enabled for you*. But it's great and you should enable it!" I mean there's nothing wrong with sharing info about some feature you might need to enable via unofficial means, of course. It's just that these articles tend to essentially end up being two news pieces in one, and one of them tends to be a bit misleading. (*Yes, yes, the "it's a controlled rollout!" thing. Not a fan of that one either. The argument, not the actual rollout.)
    • Thank you. Will do. I read in the release notes that editor config might be at play here.
    • Actually, I think even Microsoft doesn't know how to control it
