BREAKING NEWS

Sometime after he killed two people in a Virginia university dormitory but before he slaughtered 30 more in a classroom building Monday morning, Cho Seung-Hui mailed NBC News a large package, including photographs and over 30+ quicktime videos, lamenting that ?I didn?t have to do this.?

Cho, 23, a senior English major at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, killed 32 people in two attacks before taking his own life.

NBC News President Steve Capus said the network received the package, which was not addressed to a specific person, in Tuesday afternoon?s mail delivery, but it was not opened until Wednesday morning. The network immediately turned the materials over to FBI agents in New York.

The Virginia State Police and FBI could not verify Wednesday afternoon, Seoul time, the whereabouts of Virginia Tech shooter Cho Seung-hui's parents, after rumor spread in Korea that they attempted suicide.

An official at the Richmond Federal Bureau of Investigation told The Korea Herald via telephone she could not answer to the question asking whether Cho's parents had been interrogated. She said the FBI media rep could answer the question later.

Los Angeles-based Radio Korea reported Wednesday morning that Cho's parents attempted suicide, according to neighbors.

Cho's father reportedly slashed his wrist after having learned of his son's alleged killings at around 1 p.m. Tuesday, Seoul time.

Cho's mother attempted to commit suicide by taking toxic drug, Radio Korea said. She was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but is listed in critical condition according to the report.

Radio Korea also reported on the widespread speculation that Cho's parents severed all contacts with the neighbors after receiving the news, leading to a false rumor that they were visiting Korea at the time of the incident.

i wonder if there are any vids of him talking or the shooting itself because it might give some clues of that this guy was trying to acieve or do, this is an interesting psichological file ... sad for the victims though

Just watched a video of snippets of his manifesto on Yahoo. Dumbfounded is the only word I can think of.

A little down on left hand side of page under Related Video, link that says Raw Video.

what was the reasoning behind it? what did he say in the letter?

Does it really matter?? Will it justify his action? Or, do we just need another reason to support how sniveling, spoiled kids overreact when they are out from the bubble shield that their parents created which prevented him from learning how to handle stress and not point fingers in blame?

from what i've seen, there is no letter, its all images, and videos that he recorded.

Thanks Larry.

Are you insane?

This kid had issues beyond what his parents could have helped him with. I am almost sure his emotional composition did not healthily develop either as he has been labeled as being quiet, and a loner and if you listen to his multimedia manifesto he was a very angry person.. What pushed him to this? Money? Please, society failed him as a whole.

I got a bad feeling of new "pwned" images being made from these pictures.

Heh yeah you're right!

In the news article on Today, there were videos of him talking. He sounded very angry with the world..."You made me do this, you're gonna pay..." etc etc. Not nice at all.

I can think of some of the motivations for his shootings by watching the video. I'm not going to point them out for respect of the victims and to not have to start some flame war.

Does it matter why? Perhaps not to the general public. But since these incidents happen at schools, the why, is important to officials, law enforcement (who in any event always have to piece together the why), to students (who might be able to help others undergoing the same duress with peer councelling). It can also help school councellors in high schools, psychologists and other professionals identify these people for treatment or to be dealt with by law enforcement.

And since when should being a "spoiled kid" have anything to do with the situation. It didn't happen because he was spoiled. It happened because he has serious pyschological problems, social skills or coping strategies in dealing with problems. I'm sure its nice to be spoiled and rich but it doesn't have much to do with anything in this case.

He also refers to "martyrs like Eric and Dylan" ? a reference to the teenage killers in the Columbine High massacre.

I'm sure these will be shown alot more on nbc nightly news tonight

Anyone else wondering who took the pictures?

well, you could think with current technology, that he had a self-timer on his camera, or as you are watching the video, you can see him moving with the camera, showing he was holding the camera. I think it might be a self-timer on the camera... but this might explain if there is another suspect that actually mailed this off to the post office.

the only way you can really know, is to track what post office, then get their security tapes of the exact time it was entered, and see who really dropped off the letter.

I just don't like how the media reports with all the labelling of wierd, loner, type of person who is good with computers, these people are abnormal and potentially sick in the head. This is how stereotyping begins...and alienation within schools...not everyone is the same...

This guy was definitely off his rocker and his anger just exploded with this sensless violence.

completely agree... i know all the college campus's in the us are now beefing up on security 24/7 now.

In the news article on Today, there were videos of him talking. He sounded very angry with the world..."You made me do this, you're gonna pay..." etc etc. Not nice at all.

From watching the video he hated "rich" kids.

He was talking about Mercedes, gold necklaces and vodka and conagc. and how the rich kids werent happy enough with those items so they "nailed him to a cross" and "shoved garbage down his throat" and that in turn made him "die like Jesus Christ"....ok?

I think we can assume he took them himself (camera with a timer). But surprised there has been no mention of a digital camera found in the dorm room

It was probably a video camera - you could hear the tape mechanisms whirring in the background, was probably a cheap camcorder. You can borrow them for free from college campuses - mine, being a broadcasting college, hires out anything... from digital cameras to broadcast cameras.

It's so sad someone's been pushed over the edge and feels the need to take others precious lives. People are so quick these days to take others lives, I feel they're so desensitized these days that they don't even realise the implications...

    • Thanks, Sony and Nintendo, you effectively killed platform-agnostic gaming. Long gone are the days when you could wish to play a specific game on whatever platform you were. Now, you have to buy the hardware just to play that single game. What, you're only interested in THAT game and nothing more? Bad luck, suck it and buy our console.

    • "CRAZIER than ever!" Crazy Taxi: World Tour is officially coming soon by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Sega announced it is working on bringing back some of its classic franchises in 2023, and while it has taken some time, the company finally gave fans a look at one of these new projects at the Xbox Games Showcase today, which turned out to be a brand-new Crazy Taxi entry. Watch the debut trailer above, which has snippets of gameplay in between the cinematic bits while blasting a track from The Offspring. Dubbed Crazy Taxi World Tour, this installment is aptly being described as being "CRAZIER than ever!" The director behind the original, Kenji Kanno, is helming this new entry as well, which will come with access to five new cities to drive in, competitive multiplayer modes, a vehicle customization system, and more. Axel is returning as a protagonist as well, but this time a mystery driver is offering him the opportunity to take his adventures to the streets in other countries. This will involve Axel chasing down masked villains that have somehow stolen his taxi, which means even more extreme missions and challenges to overcome. "From transporting passengers at top speed to tackling unique side missions and odd jobs across dynamic maps, there are countless ways to drive crazy and rake in big money," says Sega about this new installment after over 20 years. "Perform outrageous drifts, catch insane air, and drive at crazy speeds across five different cities as you work to deliver passengers and complete a variety of missions and challenges." The studio has even confirmed an in-game Arcade Mode that players will be able to access containing the original games for plenty of nostalgic action. Crazy Taxi: World Tour is currently slated to release sometime in 2027 across PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
    • This and Crazy Taxi are the two games that interested me the most from this showcase.
    • Good, because the nonstop chattering from the voices in her head made me quit the second game.
