removing evolution from ubuntu

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to remove evolution as I don't use it, so I sudo aptitude remove evolution but along with evolution it is saying that it's going to remove ubuntu-desktop which I'm pretty sure I don't want to do.

So how do I remove evolution without ubuntu-desktop going too?

How can I stop the gaim window from hiding everytime my status changes? When I get set as away the buddy list vanishes.

Also anyone have any ideas on why when someone sends me a link it doesn't show up as a link, it shows as plain text, I have to copy and paste the text into my browser to view it.

There are some problems when you try to remove default apps like evolution, I wouldn't bother removing it, instead I hide it with menu-editor (alacarte)

Those problems with gaim can probably be solved by installing a newer version, automatix can do this

I think you can just remove Evolution. The next time you upgrade (in 6 months from now -- or later), just add 'ubuntu-desktop' again, so every new standard program will be installed.

'ubuntu-desktop' is just a placeholder, and removing it shouldn't do any harm.

I would advise against installing a version of gaim that's not in the repositories. Please file a bug at www.launchpad.net and ask on the Ubuntu forums for a solution for your problem.

Well, with gaim, make sure you don't have the "Iconify on Away" plugin enabled.

And i can remove Evolution on my system, but ubuntu-desktop depends on the evolution-webcal package, so you shouldn't have any problems if you remove everything else, but leave that package there.

Thanks for solving one of the gaim issues, I didn't even think it would be that
