XP Crashing random when playing TDU

Recommended Posts

Ok this problem cropped up yesterday evening once and again 4 times within 20 mins this afternoon

While ive been trying to play Test Drive Unlimited my system has been locking up and a high pitched sound comes from my surround sound speakers, the system is completly loced and i have to reset the machine to get the system back

it did this once on loading TDU

and 3 times while i was driving round on the map (cockpit view)

my idle GPU temp is 66c and in game its hitting around 95-96c, i know this is kinda high but what am i suppost to do...

my CPU is at 31 idle, bu ti have no idea what its at when in the game

the only thing that is overclocked is my processor, and TDU has been running fine with the overclock for 2 weeks now, so i cant see how it would be that.

At the moment in time im leaning towards a overheating issue as its a hot day and my PC sits next to a window, ive opened up all the fan vents and windows close to the PC

does anyone else think its an overheating issue??

well i decided to take the fan and heatsink off my graphics card and all the white gunk had gone over the chip and most of it wasnt even on the silver core, so ive taken it all off and replaced it with some ArticSilver stuff what ive got.

So far the GPU temp as dropped by around 5c, atm its on 60-61c

Mods please move to hardware and overclocking

huh ok, next time, just a little sum will suffice.

90c is possible on a 6600GT, in reviews at the time they was getting 80c.

So if your fan is getting old, it's possible, but not really good.

But, I would look also at the temps of the CPU. Most of BSOD (even if you don't see it, when computer freeze with a repetitive sound it's a BSOD) are more related to CPU than the GPU. In my little experience in a computer store, when the GPU over-heat you get crashing games (not the whole system) or artifacts.

If you really want to know if your system is over-heating, get ATi-Tool and SuperPI.

Run ATI-Tool with the 3D View activated and run a 4Mb in SuperPi.

If something over-heat, it will most likely crash on this.
