Counter Strike Source Serious problem

How is everyone doing..one of my mates is having a strange problem when playing CSS, every 5 or 10 minutes CCS would crash with message

ENGINE ERROR. failed to lock index buffer in CMeshDX8:LockIndexBuffer"

i have looked into google couldn't find anything that could solve this issue.

Specs

Win xp Pro sp 2

Intel P4 3.60ghz presscott

2 gig of ram

Ati xt800xt 256mb

2 maxtors on raid0

he never head this issue before, can someone suggest anything or know anything about this....!

Open CS:S, go in console and tell me what your mat_dxlevel variable is set to.

Also, what resolution are you playing at?

Do you have the latest drivers for your ATI card?

mat_dxlevel is set to 90

playing on 1280x1024

i do have the latest drivers

Just for testing - try setting that value to 70. It will load DX7 drivers instead of going through the DX8 stuff.

ok i will give that a try, just wondering it can't be that the graphic card is dying away can it....?

Nah, if the card is dying you'll get artifacts and wierd crap - or your PC just won't work. It would'nt do any harm though to check the temps of your card though.

On the steam menu right click counter-strike source, goto Properties, then Set Launch Options

type this in

-dxlevel 81

Press Ok, now try play.
