Kaspersky 7 vs NOD32

So I read that NOD32 isnt doing too well in its detection compared to Kaspersky - and Kaspersky is now apparently pretty damn light, so lemme ask - whats the fastest performer out of the 2?

Im using NOD32 on Vista at the moment and dont particularly wanna change but if I can get better detection at the same if not better performance.

Hi,

Kaspersky detection rate is a bit higher than NOD. I have used both intensively. And the thing i like about kaspersky is its memory usage gets lower too after sometime thought it keeps on going as high as 30MB and low as 6 MB.

NOD is not bad but when once i uninstalled NOD as subscription went over i installed kaspersky i got with my mainboard CD and it found 2 trojans which NOD never found.

So no antivirus is like 100% in detection rate. Its that what suits you.

I have a gr8 example alot of people say AVG detection is bad but i bought it (professional) for my cousin printer server celeron 800 MHZ and it works so light and great unlike some people who say it doesnt detect viruses. I have seen it catching stuff on sites which nod was not able to catch. Kaspersky will catch anything it feels suspicious lol even though it is ok lol..

It surely depends upon you what u want to use. These are the antivirus softwares i trust:

Keep in mind that both of these are ahead of most of the competition, so I don't think you'll have detection problems with either of them. NOD32 also has a very good reputed heuristic scanner, which is also useful in early outbreaks.

At these antivirus tools' performance in detection, if I were you, I'd rather look at their feature sets and pick the one that suits you best.

I used to be a NODhead like you. But the truth is that NOD32 is falling behind and Kaspersky Antivirus 7 does a better job at detecting and cleaning than NOD32. And the Kaspersky Antivirus interface is cleaner, more sensible and so easier to configure well. I'm a KAVhead now. :cool:

If you follow the comparisons, you'll notice NOD has been slipping lately while others like Avira have been at the top of the list. I still use NOD though :o

I found the Firewall a nightmare to configure on KIS7. Kept popping up with all sorts of questions even though I told it to be quiet and Auto Learn. Maybe I'm just too comfortable with the ZoneAlarm firewall. Having said that, I've still yet to see a virus scanner faster than NOD32 and Esset SS looks promising too. Seems a lot lighter than KIS.

I'm sticking with NOD32 and ZA now till ESS is released.

I use both Kaspersky6 and Nod32 2.7 in my house (on different computers) and they are both great. I have yet to use Kaspersky7 but I will have to try it, maybe this weekend.

I have been using NOD32 for the last 3 months. But, last night a virus came to my PC although NOD32 was active. NOD32 couldn't detect the virus. My system was messed up.

I have a dual boot system. In other windows I installed KAV and KAV found and cleaned that Virus.

I am coming back to Kaspersky again .....

i dont use nod32 anymore because it has cpu usage problems but kaspersky does not have cpu usage problems,kaspersky seems to find more than nod32,maybe once esset releases version 3 the cpu problems may go away,kaspersky 7 does feel lighter than version 6 and when i had a virus with nod32 and i told it to delete it it would not delete it no matter how many times i pressed the delete button but when i had a virus with kaspersky i told it to delete it and it did without having to click it to delete it many times,kaspersky's memory usage mostly seems less than nod32,avp uses around 10 mb then drops to around 5mb then the second avp is around 5 mb but it will shoot up to like 60mb when scanning but drops again to under 10mb.

Sometime in July I think, maybe near the end of June. Though Im not completely sure of that.

Humm..i dont mind much about RAM usage...

What I consider important is File accessing time....Im using NOD32 and its damm fast.with KAV..woot...lttle slow...Cool but slow.

If KAV 7 brings faster file accessing times i will definitly switch.

I've played around with KAV, it's a great AV solution, but, for my tastes, it is a little heavy on resources.

I like lite and lean.......and NOD32 is that. I've kept renewing it since 99.

I still use NOD32 on my [single-core] Athlon64 PC since I have a license, but I purchased KAV (after trying v7) to use on my Core2 Duo PC. Yes, KAV7 is a little heavier on resources, but that shouldn't really matter if you have an Athlon64 X2 or Core2 Duo.

Yeah.. I tried the trial yesterday, scan my computer, and man!! there were 20 threats found that couldn't be found by NOD32.. it scared me a bit

It's still scanning at home now and I left it to work.. I might switch from NOD32 although the question that I want to ask is... are the threats/trojans/worms found, is really true? Is it possible that they detect something that is not actually a trojan buat Kaspersky thought it is? Sorry for being a sceptist..

KAV 7.0.0.120 is still beta ?

KAV 7.0.0.120 was never "officially" released ... it was an internal beta. But to answer your question, it is still a beta (and the latest official beta is KAV 7.0.0.119TR).

As far as the release date for version 7 ... there is some talk (/ joking?) that version 7 will release on 07/07/07 ... but that is not official.

Found it funny when I re-installed my Audigy driver, when it tries to install the Creative Console, Kaspersky detects it as a worm/trojan.. when I select Quarantine, the installation stops.. lol not sure what's happening

Now using Kaspersky, I though NOD was perfect until I tried Kaspersky and it found two Trojans and a virus that NOD happily ignored.
