starmatrix
yeah, mines still working fine, and I got it very soon after launch. Most people dont come on just to tell everyone that their xbox is still working though, you only hear about those which have broken, giving people a bad opinion. +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted May 30, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted May 30, 2007 One of my friends actually found out that a component in his 360 has melted. Some component in between the GPU and CPU. Veedems Veteran Posted May 30, 2007 Veteran Share Posted May 30, 2007 quiet a few of you got your from best buy, maybe theres just retards, and are chucking em around in the backroom, and dropping them off trucks =\ We get them from Best Buy because the replacement plan saves us a lot of hassle in sending it back to MS and such. Bhav
Yes. Its a terrible console.... riiiight. How many sold compared to how many broke. THIS SHOULD BE EXPECTED. There would be PS3s in the same boat. Lol except you know that's not true ;) Both the PS3 and Wii have had very, very low failure rates. Everyone should read this article. Microsoft really does need to do something. It seems a few people in this thread have given up on the 360 after it failed so many times, and it's not surprising really. There's only so many people that will go to such efforts to send it back, receive a refurbished one, have it break, send it back etc Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/562678-ive-had-enough-my-4th-has-died/page/4/#findComment-588591822 Share on other sites
skase
Nice setup. You should take the mesh off your logitech speakers. They look awesome underneath. I've got a feeling scratch disks and failures happen to people who lay the xbox horizontal like yours.. skase
This is probably the dumbest post on Neowin so far today, I mean seriously, my brain is melting No, my friend, you hold that title. To elaborate, it may be more prone to scratches and failures on its side. Think about how the disc is positioned and how much easier/harder it is for the hot air to escape. Ofcourse this probably has been tested throughly by Microsoft, but if it was tested properly, would people still be getting these errors? skase
Hahaha you're actually defending your post oh good lord Was that a retort? because otherwise it sounded like you didn't debunk my argument. If there are hardware faults, software faults, why can't there be a design fault? cosine
Was that a retort? because otherwise it sounded like you didn't debunk my argument. If there are hardware faults, software faults, why can't there be a design fault? There is a design fault. It's called "the system is poorly laid out inside and the motherboard is warping under high heat conditions". Contrary to popular belief, it is not "hurr my system is vertikul so air escapes roughly 1% faster and this is definitely why my console hasn't exploded into a fiery mess". My console is vertical on a TV cart that has shelves that are like a fine grid, so it might as well have nothing underneath it blocking air from leaving. It's failed 3 times. Basically, the fact that air is able to leave slightly easier doesn't do a whole lot to stop the ridiculous temperatures the 360 is putting out. The extreme heat warps the board, causing key components like the GPU to lose contact with the board. 3 red lights or broken/garbled graphics output (for the record, all 3 of my system failures have been one of those two). One red light straight off the bat, one messed up graphics leading to red lights, one straight up broken graphics (no red lights)(this was my latest, the console either displayed black with fuzz on it or just some terrible warped image (and if you were lucky enough to actually get the warped image you only got it for roughly 5 minutes). So, let's see here, what's more believable? "Poor internal design leading to components warping under high heat conditions" or "hurrrrrrr your console is horizontal that's why it's broken"? So only 1% extra circulation if it is vertical. Obviously my argument doesn't hold but it is a design/hardware fault none-the-less. 5th time lucky! ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/562678-ive-had-enough-my-4th-has-died/page/4/#findComment-588593236 Share on other sites
Veedems Veteran Posted May 31, 2007 Veteran Share Posted May 31, 2007 Skase, your argument holds no water, either, since you've provided no facts to support it, what so ever. The fact is, people have had LESS issues with the thing laying horizontally. Vertically, there have been many more stories of scratched discs, especially in the units which lack the stabilizing piece. Morpheus Phreak
Are you serious every time I had to drive it to the UPS depot and the all took ~ 28 days to get back. On top of that I live 30 mins from Microsoft.I wish their customer service was like Nintendo's. Why haven't you just called up to Campus yet and asked to talk to the on-Campus product support team? You could probably just drive it there & have it fixed and returned pretty quickly. I've never had any issues gettings things back & forth to people on campus. Shadrack
no the 360 is a great console w/ great games, however whoever designed the retainer should be fired. 3% of conosoles failing isnt that bad. and if they will fail they will fail early (unless you play it like 10 mins a week). so you can get it replaced, only they replace it w/ other previously-failed consoles usually, which means the retainer could still be loose. but after that its probably closer to 1%. thats still quite a bit 100,000 out of 10 million. but if youre not dumb, there are easy fixes. like buy it from costco or sams club where there's a free or insanely cheap extended warranty where you can just bring it back and get a brand new in box console if it ever screws up.if you dont like games, then dont get it. if you do, then get it and be smart about it. the world will never be designed to pamper you, its your obligation to look out for yourself. if theres something you want, but theres a risk, find a way around that risk. the end So basically what you are trying to say is that it is really the consumers fault for taking a risk and buying a Microsoft hardware product in the first place. Oh, and mine didn't fail until 11 months of constant usage. If any electronic gizmo dies within a few weeks then it is most likely due to assembly line irregularities. However, 11 months laster? That is either a user problem, or an engineering problem. Guess which one I think it is? An engineering problem.... I'm trying to compile a list of where people keep their 360's & ambient temps vs. failures. Remysaus
omg, i just got the ring of death while i was in halo 3 beta, turned it off and waited for 20 minutes for it to cool down (even tho it wasn't warm at all) and now it just seems to be working fine again. he almost gave me a heart-attack. Pheee
Well I left it for a bit, and it turned on no problem played about 2-3 hours of Rainbow six, without any issues. turned off, and then tried to turn on, 3 red lights!, will try in the morning, but I guess it is getting too hot now, so maybe worth sending it for repair Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/562678-ive-had-enough-my-4th-has-died/page/4/#findComment-588600811 Share on other sites
