Friend "Painted" His laptop

No offense, I think it looks really cheap and hideous. I like the vibrant red colour but the texture is horrible and the laptop isn't really sleek enough to get away with it :\

Doesn't really make much sense to me, why paint one bit of the laptop red? Why doesn't he do the upper section as well?

Yeah I agree it looks quite bad. He's used too thick a paint for the job, or pt too much on. It should be a nice, light coating so it looks flat and smooth.

Don't know, but that seems that he used the wrong paint, it look like a metal plate now.

I think it won't look so bad once he smooths out the texture of the paint and clearcoats it. Black and red usually go together well, but as most have pointed out already, the texture is too rough making it look very amateur. Post up some more pics when he's finished though, I'd be interested to see.

Agreed. I decided to spray paint my phone once after reading a guide. It put me off painting gadgets for life. It never screwed back together properly due to the 1mm or so coating of paint, and it chipped. I ended up getting a silicone cover o try to hide it.

Back when customising phones was big - I made a small fortune oppering custom paint jobs. The key is to use the right materials and techniques. This guy clearly hasn't - but we all learn somewhere (though not on an expensive laptop).

It's all about cleaning, preparation, sanding, wet & dry paper, thin coats, more sanding, thin coats, more sanding, thin coats, letting it totally dry and then applying a clear finish.

Getting a perfect finish is time consuming, and is meant to be. But so worthwhile. If you do it right it won't chip, wont look tacky and will be amazing!

well, wht my openion is, on the laptops, we have to draw astonishing designs with single or two colours on the front outer (reverse side of the display). then it will look fantastic . can anyone post any graphics in this regarding ?

Maybe try a buffing compound of some sort... get a large grit then a small grit with an electric buffer and buff it till it shiiiiines (after another coat or 2...)

It's got potential to be REALLY nice, cause black and red go really well together.
