updating BIOS on Asus Commando

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to update my BIOS on my Asus Commando so that I could disable speedstep but have had no luck.

I grab the zip file from the website and put it on a usb flash drive (have tried formatting in ntfs, fat, and fat32) and first off the ASUS flash utilitiy in BIOS doesnt recognize the drive. So I change it to act as a floppy disk drive and then it shows its there (as B:/) but when I go in the drive, it shows nothing is in it.

So I decided to go buy a floppy drive, and try it that way. Same thing. I put the file on the floppy, and then when I go in the directory, it says nothing is in there.

Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Do I need to unzip the folder before I put it in?

wow, you'd think the ASUS tech guy would tell me to extract it

although last time I called the ASUS tech guy, he couldnt tell me where the front mic and audio ports. His response was "guess you learn something new everyday"

thanks guys, I'll try it when I get home

I returned the floppy drive, so is the best way to go, but the USB in FDD form and go from there? does it matter whether its FAT, FAT32, or NTFS?

If your a noobie to flashing bios i'd stay away from using floppys. Use asus Afudos BIOS update tool V2.26b from within windows. Much easier. You will find a link to it here:

or direct download

I also have the asus commando with a core2duo 6600 overclocked to 3.4Ghz! :p

well I got it updated...so I was able to disable speedstep. However, so now the multiplier stays at 8 (instead of 9) so i get like 2.16 ghz all the time

now if I go to unlock the multiplier and set it at 9. The speedstep option disappears from the menu. So now when I go into CPU-Z, I see it goes back to 6..(1.6 ghz) and sometimes it jumps to 9, which is what it should be. So it looks like speedstep comes on whenever I unlock the multiplier.

Any suggestions?

Hi ! Sory for breaking into your thread Imnotrichey, but i have a question about flashing bios on this motherboard as well. I ordered commando and brand new E2140 processor. According to asus.com, this CPU is supported since bios 0902, but i assume that board will come with older bios  So what can i except when I plug it all in?

It will just detect that cpu as some older one, though it will work?

Or it will warn me that cpu is not supported and allow me to flash bios to newer one

Or it will warn me its not supported and i have to borrow older cpu from someone?

shoot, i wish i could remember off the top of my head what BIOS came on it, I could of swore it was 10 something

I honestly am not too smart with mobo's. I am assuming if it supports my 6600 it will supports yours right out of the box (not really sure what the e2140 is though)

but just remember to unzip the file from bios :) and good luck with the front mic port, mine didnt fit on the slot they gave :(

anyone got any help on my multiplier question?!
