I have a quick question regarding the answer files: I can't seem to get 5.6 to check only the uninstalled modules, if I use an answer file it always checks modules whether they are blue or not. 5.1's answer file was a different structure in notepad I've noticed, where there was a + or - and a hierarchy, such as Recommended Updates. 5.6's structure seems to just list every module checked with no hierarchy or +/-. Is there a way to use an answer file in 5.6 but have it NOT check the already installed updates in blue?

Thanks for the help!

Aaron

i think answer files are applied before the item is detected as installed so blue items should not be checked when an answer files is loaded... ill have to double check...

I must be doing something funky then. I'm having the same problem with 2003 and WinXP 5.6, whether I run them from a network share with a batch file or from a local drive with no script. Everything in the answer file gets checked whether it's blue or not. I'll keep tinkering...

nah, my bad... answer files were applied regardless of install-state.

here's a fixed .exe which solves 3 bugs:

- fixed ctrl + i

- blue items are now not selected, even if mentioned by an answer file

- fixed duplicate word in titlebar, when rti files includes the word "AutoPatcher"

autopatcher5.6.73.zip

Thanks Raptor, that did the trick! You guys have done a herculean effort getting 5.6 out the door and I'm quite impressed that you could find so many things to improve over 5.1. My favorite new feature is the maximize button as simple as that sounds. Haha! I'll be a donating member when my next paycheck arrives! :D

Has this updated .exe been updated to the main May core relese yet?

(Just need to know)

Why would the answer file not load checked blue items,

what is the significance of the blue items,

what if I need to load them via answer file?

Thanks

Tommy

  • 2 weeks later...

this may 2007 version of autopatcher is not picking up the default answerfile that i specify .. plus its not also detecting all the windows updates at all !!! for example ... i didn't had windows's recent updates installed , so when i ran it in un-attended mode then only 14 updates were installed !!!! and when i checked manually ... NO such problem was there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! still FEB 2007 edition rocked for me ...... lets hope i'm not able to see the command line arguments properly ???

autopatcher.exe /noeula /unattend /nobackup /defaults:defaults.aaf

anyone can help me ????

^ Check here.

And don't post the exact same question in two threads.

Welll even I am educated at least so much to find out about the switches !!!!!!! ..

What I was trying to say was that ... when I run the Autopatcher for May 2007 in un-attended mode then it doesn't detects all windows updates required!!!!...... and secondly it doesn't picks the answer file either !! ..

u just gave me the link of the autopatcher command line switches theory !!!!!! I know that all !!!! I need practical analysis of the problem rather than its theoretical links !

hey actually i noticed some changes in autopatcher command liners ... lets hope this works ..

thanks !

/defaults no longer exists. Use /answerfile instead

Is it possible to have the load all even if installed as an option somehow. Reason I ask is every time there is a new update of the program and we want to updated are answer list, we have to start all over every month. With the .72 version, it makes it easier to add to the list.

    • You are clueless. The updates are done in the background so the next time you open Edge the updates are applied automatically. There is no need to close all your tabs. Just keep browsing like you normally do. Clearly you don't use Edge and are just one of those haters that complain for the sake of complaining.
    • I don't get this David. Can you explain it please.
    • Microsoft is busy. Lots of changes to be released imminently for Windows server or soon. Also, lots happening for next version as well. Third party virus scanning software is being moved out of Kernel mode to avoid repeat of Crowdstrike incident. Windows Protected Mode and Windows Ready Print no longer require third party print drivers to be installed. New storage stack being developed. New NVME drivers now available for Windows Server 2025 to improve local NVME drive performance by 60+ percent. NVME-Of of fabric being worked on for next release to improve network access to NVME drives. ReFs (next file system) now has ability to boot and will become default file system in next release of Windows Server. ReFs improves on NTFS in several areas including resiliency and reliability and scalability. New update stack is being worked on to unify Windows updates, and updates for drivers and first party/3rd party application software. A stricter and more robust third-party driver certification program (ODI) is being worked on to improve performance, thermals, battery life, and reliability on modern Windows hardware by tightening how OEMs and IHVs (Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, etc.) build and ship drivers. There is a tone more but too numerous to mention.
    • Now disable that stupid OneDrive backup request when Windows starts please. So unbelievably frustrating to only have “remind me later” instead of “no and never ask me again”
    • Hello, The Media Creation Tool is still at v10.0.26100.7019 from October 2025. Just looks like the backend has been updated. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
