Adding additional PCs to a network with Adminstrator Password?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to add new PCs to a network if you don't have the password for the Administrator?

My mate is a partner in an insurance brokers, and has asked me if when they buy new PCs into the office for me to add them to the network.

They used to use a company who setup the network for them, but they charge ridiculous prices. However all the client PCs dont have Administrative rights and are set as restricted users.

If I was to set-up a PC I need the Adminstrator password so that I can join the domain.

Is there anyway around this if he is unable to gain the password ?

Also, is there anyway when logged on as a restricted user to be able to remove programs?

As he wants Windows Messenger removed from each client PC, for obvious reasons, appears the staff like to login and chat!

Thanks.

If you want these computers on the domain, they'll need to be added on the domain controller. There must be someone around who knows the credentials, otherwise who adds/removes users and alters policy?

Failing that, you could get them to login locally and share resources with each other.

Even the external company shoul provide the administrator password to someone with your friend's organisation.

They probbaly have a contract in place to provide support, but this does not necessarily mean it locks the customer from their own domain

Yes, I had this assumption as well, but was not 100% sure on this.

I will check with him thanks.
