Trying to find a PhotoBooth AppleScript

Recommended Posts

I saw a cool idea at a wedding expo: There's a photobooth. The guests get in, take some pictures, and get to keep a couple for themselves and a couple go into the guestbook.

But the service costs $1100. The idea looks easy enough to do myself with a MacBook and an AppleScript.

The tricky part is that apparently nobody else has completely done this yet.

I found a request for exactly this on the Internet in the comments on one page, but the response doesn't instill much hope.

I found an example implementation, but it looks like it doesn't do everything quite right.

I don't have long-term access to a MacBook, or I'd try writing the AppleScript myself. I know friends who have MacBooks, but I can't borrow one for a week to try to set all of this up.

Does anyone know where I would begin to look for something like this? I asked Google where I can find info about "applescript photobooth print" (without the quotes) but I don't know how to further refine that search or if there's an AppleScript collection site somewhere that might have something like that.

So apparently on the new PhotoBooth features page for OS 10.5, there looks like a paragraph about this:

Share your smiles.

Taking photos is only half the fun. The real joy?s in the sharing. In Leopard, Photo Booth files automatically appear in your iPhoto library, complete with a Photo Booth keyword tag, so you can sort, send, and photocast them in a snap. And thanks to a new photo printing feature, you can choose a layout and add your favorite shots. Just like in a real photo booth.

So it looks like the print feature doesn't work like I expect in 10.4? I guess I'll have to wait until 10.5 then to get this feature. That's fine. The wedding's not until April anyway. =)

The only thing I can think of is, take 4 photos (Not the 4 up). Once the photos are taken, select the 4 of them and click the iPhoto button. Each set of 4 will be created as an event. Then just print each event out as a contact sheet with 2 columns and no title.

But can that be automated to happen automatically? I want them to just be able to click on an external button and have it do all of that, but I don't want to have someone sitting at the booth wasting the day when they should be enjoying the party...
