Something the Windows-fanboys can feel upset over:

Mac OS X Leopard Generic PC icon

picture2vu4.png

is that for real?? that is the PC icon on Leopard? Hilarious!

anyway - I went back to the Mac store in Schaumburg last night and played with them some more. I couldn't believe how slow they were... these are brand new iMacs and Mac Books. I opened iPhoto for instance and it took forever to come up. If you click around too fast while things are loading the back ground dims out and things seem to freeze up momentarily. also seems very laggy when trying to resize and move around apps. this happened on all but the Mac Pro towers with a ton of RAM. what kind of video do these things have?? maybe they can't properly power those giant displays? now i don't feel so bad about Vista seeming laggy at times... apparently that plagues the competition as well. not that I had a chance to play for long - this was just my first impression after about 20 minutes on 4 different Macs.

Yup it's the real thing. :p

Well they really shouldn't be that slow. My school bought a whole range of new C2D iMacs and they load my entire iPhoto Library in no time at all (I have it backed up to my Flash drive). Maybe those people there just don't know how to maintain their Macs properly or they just don't bother to.

Could be. I couldn't really tell how much stuff was running either... I assume alot of people open stuff and then minimize it - and it goes to the dock and stays there. The demo machines had quite a few photos on them - but nothing that should cause lag. I did notice Finder was quite fast. The unresponsiveness if you try to click around faster than you ought to was rather annoying... not sure if that happens on all macs or not. i do find it funny that i've seen a few mac books in use around like at church and in libraries and all that I've seen were running Windows XP!

Oh man, those folder icons are hideous, since when did Apple outsource its design team to Redmond. Looks like Leopard will be requiring a face lift on day 1.

Those folder icons remind me of a set I've seen on Iconfactory before, but I can't remember the name of the set right now. When I have more time I will try to find it.

Agua?

I kinda think just the opposite. These new icons are beautiful. I hate Vista's icons with a passion (glossy to the max).

+1

I hate the Windows Vista folders as well. Especially those glossy-puke-colored User folders. :x

itunes is the biggest joke ever, you have no idea how Infuriating it is to try to add music onto it, couldnt you SIMPLY just add single mp3's on, NO you have to put them into a special folder and all sorts of gay things happen, why couldnt you simply drag and drop.

This made me LOL for some reason.

You can tell by the little black triangles under the icons in the Dock. If there is a triangle under it, the app is running. Most Macs that I'd see in CompUSA (well, before the one near me closed recently) have most of the iLife apps running, along with pretty much everything else in the Dock. No wonder they run slow. Most people not familiar with Macs tend to just click the red bubble to close the apps, not realizing that this (in most cases) just closes the window, but doesn't close the app itself. Hell, my wife has been using OS X for several years now and she still does that with Safari all the time.

.Neo, do you have the WWDC Leopard beta? Is that where you're getting all the high-quality new icons? They are alright, certainly better than the default icons in OS X 10.0-.4, but I like the default Vista icons better, myself. I can only hope CandyBar is quickly updated for Leopard, looks like I'll continue with the AquaBlend icon pack, those have the best folder icons I've ever seen, in my opinion.

Yeah, Wired just removed some of the images of iCal, although it is pretty much identical to iCal in some of the older Leopard builds.

Anyway, what's the deal with the Aqua scroll bars? iTunes 7 doesn't have them, Cover Flow doesn't have them, why isn't Apple being consistent and going with the iTunes 7 flat scroll bar?

To me that the worst thing they have done. Change the Aqua scrollbar in iTunes and the toolbar buttons on Leopard are not nice. Thank god there is UNO. :D

You might want to remove the iCal + screensaver shots Giga, we don't want Apple legal coming after us.

Radish™

I honestly don't see why Apple would request them to be removed if there are screens of Arabesque and the other screens from previous builds all over the web. (same for iCal).

It's because we are a major tech website, not someone's blog or Flickr account (which is harder to track down). And Apple employees read the forums.

Radish?
