What the hell is up with Windows Update

Recommended Posts

Everytime I go to windows update, click custom, wait for the thing to load, then when it tells me that I have updates, I click on them (whether it be High Priority, Software, or Hardware) it wont load the page, it will just reload windows update inside the frame until it eventually freezes internet exploder..hard to explain..so heres a pic..It's been doing this for a while. I even just formated and put on a fresh copy of XP and I'm still having this problem..any solution?

Yeah I have..it was working fine till I did some more windows updates..I formated and installed XP with SP2 slipstreamed, and i STILL had over 120 updates to add. After they were all done, I went back to windows update and found more updates, then the problem started occuring..

Wow. far out man!

That is kind of strange i admit. Try clearing your cache and try again, however if that does not work, let us know and i will see if i can find my old batch file i created which will do a few standard things to your system to try and make it work.

Try this. It may work:

It is an old thing that used to work with Windows updates. I was going to impliment other fixes in to it, but never had time so there are only a few in there now.

It was originally a batch file but i just moved everything in to a script for you.

Its worth a go as these used to and im sure still do fix most windows update errors, but i cant guarantee it.

Let me know if you get any errors with the file and ill take a look.

Thanks Rich, I tried it out but still no luck..This is just plain weird..I dont know why its doing this really. I did figure out a work around though (its weird aswell). If I right click the software, hardware, or priority updates, and click open in a new tab, it wont open it in a new tab, but it will load it correctly..thats screwed up..but I guess I shouldnt expect more from MS..

How do I go about doing that? And like I said, it wasnt always like this..I did the first 100 or so windows updates fine, then there was about 50 more (you'd think they'd come out with SP3 already..) and then thats when it started screwin up..it was probably one of the updates..

I want to know wtf they're packing in these "cumulative" updates for IE7. Today's was 15.50mb and the whole damn IE7 install file is only 14.7mb!

It's easy to find out if you take the time to look.

No..its not bad..this is a recent problem, it has nothing to do with my cd or installation. Like I said, everything was fine till the last couple of windows updates, then things got screwy. I saw another post like this on this forum down below too when I was browsing. I know im not the only one with this issue.

    • It's time to say goodbye to Edge and switch back to Firefox. There's no way to disable the ugly rounded corners that appear everywhere. Not even on the page frame. No one uses screens with rounded corners, you idiots.
    • Being on Github makes it more trustable since I can see the code at any point.
    • Gen Atlas is the next game from Shadow of the Colossus creator, this time with giant robots by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The mind behind widely well-received games like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, Fumito Ueda, showed up at Summer Game Fest today, and that was to reveal his latest project. Being developed by genDESIGN, Gen Atlas is incoming with what looks to be plenty of mech and robot action. Watch the reveal trailer, which makes not much sense, above. The game will have players waking up on an abandoned planet where deserted facilities and grand designs from the original creators remain. Soon, they will stumble upon a colossal robot, from which players gain access to the power to change the world. "Across an endless expanse of time, the remnants of those forgotten constructs begin to move once more," adds the studio. The gameplay snippets seen in the trailer show the player character climbing giant robots (as expected from the creator), while also controlling these titans somehow as well. This is a fully single-player open-world adventure. “The team and I are grateful to all the fans who’ve been eager to learn more about our game,” says Fumito Ueda, CEO and creative director of genDESIGN. “Their passion and enthusiasm has always motivated and inspired us. We hope to share an experience that inspires moments of quiet wonder and discovery.” Before gaining the name Gen Atlas, Ueda first announced this project back in 2024 with the codename Project Robot. Interestingly, this will be a project being funded and published by Epic Games, which should mean that a Steam release is out of the question. Gen Atlas will be releasing on Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. A release date has not been announced just yet.
    • How backwards can you have it? Yes, Linux was gaining because of Linux handhelds and the push for gaming compatibility, but that's not desktop users, it barely converts anyone who owns a SteamDeck, though it helps for those who wanted to do it, but anyways, the AI+RAM debacle helped Linux because people can't easily upgrade their PCs easily and many hate AI so they'd be incentivized to try Linux.
