Red Storm brings the next installment of the Army's official videogame exclusively to 360.

June 11, 2007 - Master Chief has some competition in the form of true blue U.S. soldiers. Red Storm, the team behind Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2, is set to bring America's Army: True Soldiers exclusively to Xbox 360 this September. True Soldiers, officially sponsored by the U.S. Army, brings the popular series to the next-generation of consoles.

True Soldiers runs on the GRAW 2 engine and features a number of improvements on previous America's Army titles. You'll be able to build your soldier in single-player, choosing one of five roles (Rifleman, Grenadier, Automatic Rifleman and Sniper). You can then take those skills and bring the heat online in any of eight maps developed by Red Storm under the guidance of the U.S. Army. A reward system for honorable actions is also in place with the Play-Lead-Recruit feature, to encourage gamers to act like real soldiers. Add to this the latest in high-tech equipment and weaponry and you have the most authentic Army experience a civilian could imagine.

We spoke with Randy Greenback, Creative Director on America's Army: True Soldiers, about Red Storm's latest military assignment. Greenback disclosed considerable intel on True Soldiers, including adversarial multiplayer details and 16-player online co-op. Yes, you read that right. At attention, soldier! Here's everything you need to know about America's Army.

The article makes no mention of it being free, nor makes any mention of it costing money, which leads me to believe we are to assume it is indeed going to cost money.

Okay,

The 'original' Americas Army is free, funded by the US Military. It's created ( Correct me if I'm wrong ) BY the Military, people the US Military hired ( Programmers etc. ) To create this game.

It's distributed freely through Bittorrent, other game websites etc. meaning there's no cost for them to release it. ( For the distribuation i mean )

This on the other hand, has been given to a third party company to develop ( Red Storm ) They have bought the license for the game ( GRAW2 Engine ) and they have to distribute the game to stores worldwide, print the games, cases etc.

So I'd say obviously It's going to cost money this time around.

Also, an Americas Army retail game was also released for the PC, Same price as any other game.

Tell me if my thinking is wrong.

Nothing wrong with your thinking, your attitude leaves plenty to be desired though.

Is that all we're going to hear for the next 5 months for every new game that comes out?

Unfortunately, "yes" is the probably answer to that question. The Halo fanboys have nothing to dribble about between now and then so to get their rave on they'll just force their opinions on everyone else, no matter if it's to do with the subject at hand.

Back to the game in hand, this doesn't look half bad. I always liked the idea behind America's Army, but never got round to doing much more than the training, mainly because whenever I went to play it online, everybody else was so much more experienced than me, I wanted to join a game with people at my own skill level. Hopefully with a 360 version there'll be matchmaking abilities so people at or around my skill can taste some whoopass :D

I think they made a good choice going for the GRAW2 engine as well. It makes sense to me to go for this as the Unreal3 engine that's been used so far on the 360 can't do realistic body models, it may just be the people making those models that want everyone to have limbs the size of Nantucket tho.

Overall, I'm looking forward to this.

Wait...when were they in the same competitive market?

You are right, I am a halo fanboy, but there is plenty of other games that are coming out that I have plenty of interest in. Just because I dislike one game doesn't make me automatically a person who will not like every game that comes out before or after Halo 3. Unreal Tournament, Assassins Creed, Army of Two, and others have my eye..just this doesn't.

All I have to say is Halo 3 will own this game..just the truth. I've never really like Americas Army to begin with, I wish it luck.

I'm a Halo fanboy and see no problem with AA. If the game looks good enough I will still buy it, as yes they are both FPS' but one is almost sim-like, the other is futuristic arcade.

    • The fact I need to use "Show more" like 99% of the time is so annoying. Or why I have 7-zip under 3 submenus when it could be in top. And Microslop keeps saying how they'll improve Start and I've not seen ANY improvement yet. In MONTHS. WTF?! I'll believe any of it when they actually deliver anything.
    • LosslessCut 3.69 by Razvan Serea LosslessCut aims to be the ultimate cross platform FFmpeg GUI for extremely fast and lossless operations on video, audio, subtitle and other related media files. The main feature is lossless trimming and cutting of video and audio files, which is great for saving space by rough-cutting your large video files taken from a video camera, GoPro, drone, etc. It lets you quickly extract the good parts from your videos and discard many gigabytes of data without doing a slow re-encode and thereby losing quality. Or you can add a music or subtitle track to your video without needing to encode. Everything is extremely fast because it does an almost direct data copy, fueled by the awesome FFmpeg which does all the grunt work. Features Lossless cutting of most video and audio formats Losslessly cut out parts of video/audio (for cutting away commercials etc.) Losslessly rearrange the order of video/audio segments Lossless merge/concatenation of arbitrary files (with identical codecs parameters, e.g. from the same camera) Lossless stream editing: Combine arbitrary tracks from multiple files (ex. add music or subtitle track to a video file) Losslessly extract all tracks from a file (extract video, audio, subtitle, attachments and other tracks from one file into separate files) Batch view for fast multi-file workflow Remux into any compatible output format Take full-resolution snapshots from videos in JPEG/PNG format Manual input of cutpoint times Apply a per-file timecode offset (and auto load timecode from file) Change rotation/orientation metadata in videos View technical data about all streams Timeline zoom and frame/keyframe jumping for accurate cutting around keyframes Saves per project cut segments to project file View FFmpeg last command log so you can modify and re-run recent commands on the command line Undo/redo Give labels to cut segments View segment details, export/import cut segments as CSV Import segments from: MP4/MKV chapters, Text file, YouTube, CSV, CUE, XML (DaVinci, Final Cut Pro) Video thumbnails and audio waveform Edit file metadata and per-stream metadata Edit per-stream disposition Cut with chapter marks Annotate segments with tags View subtitles Example lossless use cases Cut out commercials from a recorded TV show (and re-format from TS to MP4) Remove audio tracks from a file Extract music track from a video and cut it to your needs Add music to a video (or replace existing audio track) Combine audio and video tracks from separate recordings Include an external subtitle into a video Quickly change a H264/H265 MKV video to MOV or MP4 for playback on iPhone Import a list of cut times from other tool as a EDL (edit decision list, CSV) and run these cuts with LosslessCut Export a list of cut times as a CSV EDL and process these in another tool Quickly cut a file by its MP4/MKV chapters Quickly cut a YouTube video by its chapters (or music times from a comment) Change the language of a file's audio/subtitle tracks Attach cover art to videos Change author, title, GPS position, recording time of a video Fix rotation of a video that has the wrong orientation flag set Great for rotating phone videos that come out the wrong way without actually re-encoding the video. • Doesn't even need a UI for point 2 - use some sort of JSON/XML container - because MOST users won't even bother.
