iTunes .itl Library File

I store my (very large) iTunes library on my external hard drive, but I was wondering if there was a way that I can tell iTunes to store the .itl file there also so that if (when) I want to play the library from another computer, I can do so. Is there a way? Thanks!

I think if you change your music folder location it will also change your library location

but you may wanna try it coz im not sure

Right. This is how I went about moving my library, however, what I'm looking for is a way to have iTunes store the .itl and .xml library files on the external drive, as well, so that on other computers, I can point them to this file and access my library. As it is, they are being stored in /Music/iTunes/. I would like them in /My Book/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library/, or anywhere on the drive, really.

You, sir, are a genius! It worked perfectly! The only problem, though, I forgot, was that iTunes on Windows can't read Mac iTunes .itl files. :pinch:

When I used Windows, I succeeded sharing the same library between OS X and Windows. The Mac .itl files should work in Windows, although it won't be able to find your music files unless you consolidate your library (that way, relative paths are used).

I think the proper way you are meant to do it is like this. If you got it working now though I guess it doesn't matter :p
