some people are sayin over at neogaf the dev there is adding sensitively its seating at his left arm and it seems to show the pad shake when the game character gets attacked....

Gona get an e3 announcement about it?

Gavin... you need to get out more, take your rain jacket though :D

How are people coming to the assumption that it's a controller under that blur? It could be something else...

Have you watched the whole video? If you watch the whole thing it isn't blurred out for a split second at the begining of the sequence and it looks very much like a playstation controller. Also, while he's holding it his hands/thumbs are in the right places for a PS controller. Furthermore, other playstation controllers are blurred out while they are playing in other parts of the video (I assume they are playstation and not 360 elite controllers in the other parts because of hand and thumb position and the people stating the are playing on the PS3).

Looks like he just hit the controller or whatever it is with the arm.

He hits his headphones with his right arm. The suspected PS3 controller is set down and then moves into his left arm. I'm sure all this will be cleared up at E3.

Blinky red lights to feature in new Sixaxis controller - will rumble join it?

Dutch site PS3Focus.nl has a section of a TV report about today's price cut. The interesting thing about this piece of footage is that it includes a couple of seconds close up on someone using a Sixaxis controller. Not particularly exciting normally, but in this instance there's something a bit new. A bit glowy. Check out the image above. We speculated about the glowing red PS button on the 80GB box this morning, but seeing the flashing red button in someone's hands makes us even more ... speculative.

It's clear, then, that another controller is on the cards and will be released before too long (if not for the 80GB launch, then before). The question is, does the upgrade just include a bit of extra illumination, or will we see rumble joining the party? It's probably a fair bet to say yes, but we're not going to say anything definite until confirmation happens at E3. Which it should. Mixed messages? We like to keep you guys on your toes.

The other question is whether that light is going to be blinking on and off constantly during gameplay. If so, that could get quite annoying. What do you think? Check out the video footage and let us know.

Looking at the controller (left arm), it also looks like he hits it with his arm, moving it.

I'm not saying "no rumble" (the light thing makes me think there is), but there would have been speculation or a leak about this before now.

Editor's note: I have posted before that I don't care about rumble, I don't use it when I play PC games with my Logitech pad, but I do hope they include it to shut up the "But your console doesn't even have ruuummbllle" crowd.

It's cute that you think it's OK that Sony said it was IMPOSSIBLE for their controller to have rumble. :p

As for the red light thing, from the post above:

[uPDATE] Patrick Seybold has posted a comment on his post stating that the red light "is not a sign or indication of a new/different controller with the 80GB model." It is a feature of the debug model. This doesn't change the fact that we know that the rumbing Sixaxis is on its way at some point in the future. Just not necessarily bundled with the 80GB PS3.

It could be misinformation again, but who knows.

...

What did you expect them to say?

"No, we wont be adding any rumble to the PS3 controller because we cant figure how to and because Immersion is ****ed at us"

They have to say that kinda of crap..

They don't have to say exactly that, but they also don't have to straight up lie to their customers.

Phil already answered that question about them sayin that rumble wudnt be possible with the motion aswell!

"As to previous statements that I made, what do you expect me to say? We were in a lawsuit; we were in litigation. Of course I have to defend our view. And you know, actually, I still truly believe having the SIXAXIS controller, the way it is, is the best way to control games. We're looking forward to working with Immersion going forward, and who knows where that will lead us."

I don't see why the heck Sony would re-design the Sixaxis controller and not put in rumble as a feature.

I'm expecting this new controller + rumble to be announced at E3. Priced at the same price as the current Sixaxis, and with a price drop on the Sixaxis. :D Sony does seem to be in the mood of price drops. ;)

A certain other company never justified including a wired controller with the Core system even though they clearly stated that every unit would come with a wireless controller. It's an industry full of lies...get over it.

That was probably because not everybody wants\needs a wireless controller, but the choice was there. The whole point of the Core was that it was a kind of budget model, and it would only bump up the price including a wireless one. That wasn't a good comparison, more likely just trying to get a jab at 360 every chance you can get. Nobody is talking about the 360, why bring it up? People are annoyed because Sony said it would never get a rumble controller, lied about the reason why, and now have completely gone back on what they said.

The industry is full of lies, yes, however I think Sony are more guilty of this than anyone at the moment.

uh...the price difference between the wired and the wireless is $10 (in Canada) so i think they could have absorbed the cost

    • UK funds £60M AI labs to challenge US tech dominance with open-source models by Paul Hill The UK government has awarded £60 million to Oxford University and University College London to help keep the country in the AI race by focusing on open-source, low-hardware alternatives. This is in stark contrast to the expensive, closed-source, and high-hardware-requirement models being created in the United States and elsewhere. The money will be shared among two new academic research labs over six years to help them redesign the fundamental mathematics and architectures of AI to help the UK reduce its reliance on a handful of US tech firms. Commenting on the development, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said: Initially, the government planned to fund just one lab with a £40 million investment, but with this update, two labs will now get access to a larger pool of funds. The labs are expected to invest in the top AI researchers at every career stage, with £2 million per lab being set aside for hiring at least ten doctoral students. The government hopes that this will grow the UK’s talent in the field of AI. The labs are also expected to work closely with the leaders in British AI research, such as the Alan Turing Institute and UKRI’s AI research hubs. This will allow the various teams to collaborate and create new solutions faster than they could alone. This development is pretty interesting for a number of reasons, chiefly that it could create a long-term challenge for US tech firms if these labs successfully scale these open-source architectures that bypass the proprietary ecosystems. It could also give British businesses and public sector organizations access to AI features without paying high licensing fees to foreign providers or needing to invest in specialized server infrastructure.
    • If I were them, I'm gonna hold out until the prices of these semiconductor parts normalize. $1,049 for a ~5 year old hardware is DoA, more so for gamers. On a deeper note, if Steam Machine is priced like this, we are soo effed up for the next gen Xbox console and PS6. With great AAA titles releasing at the end of the year, this just creates more demand...and more tears for me. Lol.
    • I suspect one reason its hard to justify subsidising is that it's not a locked down device like a traditional console is. In this climate sadly if it was a "good deal" you'd get people hoarding them for anything but gaming. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is £1300 here ($1720) for some context on how other SteamOS like devices are now priced. I got the older Z1 Extreme model for £300 with a dock, just shows how insane prices have got recently.
