+BudMan MVC Posted July 28, 2007 MVC Share Posted July 28, 2007 Well what do you know, I just had this little bug ;) But :argh:, I forgot to check the readonly attribute.. Anyway - I just did a restart an it worked out fine. argh.. I wish I would of thought to screen shot the readonly attribute of my download folder.. Anyway -- just told it to retry. It had atleast started the file.. Since it asked me to replace it.. If I had to guess, a bug in virus scanning?? What virus scanner are you using? If you get the error alot!! Try turning off virus scanner for testing.. Please scan anything you download before executing it, etc.. But you know what I mean - it might be a bug in the virus scanner hook an the download process? Couple of seconds later I assure you - I did nothing to any processes, attributes, connections, nothing - just clicked retry.. I agree its an annoying bug.. but has nothing to do with the readonly attribute ;) If only there was a way to force it to happen - so we could look into why.. Its very hard to troubleshoot when it happens so rare. atomicrabbit
well holy crap!!! I feel better that 1) I'm not the only one, 2) I'm not going nuts and 3) Someone has shone some light on this problem and figured out what the source is... firefox!!! AHH ok, so... If I recall correctly (the error hasn't happened in a while)... when I first started getting this problem, I am pretty sure that I tried the retry link a few times, and it didn't work. The only thing that seemed to work (or maybe I just connected the 2 together) was clearing the read-only checkbox and applying it. Now regardless if this actually made a difference or not, i was able to download after that. Maybe it just needed a few seconds for the problem to fix itself or maybe something else. I still haven't gotten the error since July 11, so you can see how sporadic and annoying the problem is. I am going to go visit the mozillazine forums to see if the problem was posted before or post something new there now that I am pretty sure it is a firefox problem. I'll keep this thread updated with any new information. +BudMan MVC Posted July 30, 2007 MVC Share Posted July 30, 2007 Well I would not call it a firefox problem just yet.. Since I rarely use different browsers - an even rarer still would be downloading anything in another browser.. I might be OS related or other software causing the problem - but the only symptom being seen is when you http download in your browser.. For all I know it happens in IE as well, but since I do not use IE -- I would not see it there, etc. What virus scanner do you run on the machine where you have seen the problem? I was running AVAST the machine I saw the issue on, but I have seen it on my work machine as well.. But that one runs thru a proxy, so it could be proxy related, etc.. etc.. sporadic issues can be a REAL PAIN to track down.. I also searched google (which i should have done a long time ago) and noticed a few other ppl are having the same problem. No fixes yet though. I posted something on the mozillazine forums, so we'll see what happens there. I'm using Symantec AV Corporate Edition 10.1.5000 and I run a virus scan (automatically) 3 times a week. I know symantec is prone to missing some viruses, but I highly doubt I have a virus on my computer. On top of that, I am experiencing this problem on more than one computer and the other computer is using NOD32 for the virus scanner. No viruses. I do not have a proxy set up on either computers. +BudMan MVC Posted July 30, 2007 MVC Share Posted July 30, 2007 yeah I doubt it any type of infection -- more of the a possible issue with the virus scanner trying to scan the file, etc.. Thats just a wild ass guess.. I also did a search but did not seem to find anything that was the exact same issue - could you link to some of the stuff you found using google where ppl were having the same issue?? What did you search on? An could you link to your post on mozilla - I would like to track that thread as well.
