Hey peeps,

I've got a little problem updating my D-Link DIR-625 Rev.A to the latest v1.09 firmware. At the moment its running on v1.05, quite a bit behind.

So heres what happens:

After selecting the firmware image file(*.bin), which I downloaded from the official D-Link site, from the Router home page, I click on "Upload". Then I click "Yes" twice for the two confirmation prompts that pops up. The page starts to load, everything is smooth up to this point. When the load bar at the bottom of the page goes about..3 tenth of the way through, the page goes plank, and the loading status is now said to be "Done" at the bottom. When I log back into the router, the firmware is still 1.05! I tried again, this time, I refreshed at the "blank" page after the upload, I get this error message telling me that the upload was not complete, and tells me to make sure that I am logged in as Admin (which I was), and that the destination file is not corrupted (its freshly downloaded from the official site), and a bunch of other suggestions which I have already met. (ie. wired-connection to the router; minimum usage of the internet while upgrading, etc)

Here are a few things I did to try and fix it:

Instead of using Firefox to upgrade, I also tried Internet Explorer and Netscape, no luck there.

I tried upgrading from v1.05 to the next firmware version (v1.07, donno where v1.06 went), and was planning to upgrade one version at a time instead of skipping to v1.09, still doesn't work.

I reset the router then tried updating it fresh, at default configuration, still not working

Since this router is a pretty good one, I was hoping that someone out here on this forum might have the same router, better yet the same problem but with a solution.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

P.S. if theres a screenshot you need to help me with the problem, just leave a message. =D

how are you downloading the firmware? I downloaded the 1.09 an here are the md5 and sha1 numbers for it.. do you get the same numbers.. I never understood why companies do not provide checksums so that users can know for sure that their download is good..

Did you click on the link on the website - or did you go to the ftp site directly with some ftp software?

ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir625/Firmware

md5 - 2B 42 B4 F9 C8 4E 56 C4 B0 2C E8 9A 9C 58 12 58

sha1 - 8513 3F4E BEA8 BB72 10E7 3923 22B1 5AC1 BFC1 AEA9

Are we sure your Rev.A ? And we are sure your a North America Model - not some international model?

edit: Are you running any firewall software or security based software that might block tftp? Most router firmware using tftp to transfer the firmware.. Even when using a web interface to start it, if your computer is blocking the actual tftp part - you could have issues.. Many a security type software, virus scanners, etc.. could block this type of traffic - since tftp has been used to move many a worm around, etc.

Try using a diffrent browser. I know that sounds silly but it could be a cause. My Gamerlounge router doesnt work with Firefox
Um he clearly stated he tried that already ;)

heh..yea..I already did that..

uhh..it was the link on the website..there were two drop down menus, one for "DIR" and the other for "625" then I had to choose whether is Rev.A or Rev.C.

Yea im sure its Rev.A cuz they gave a picture of what the P/N and the S/N are suppose to be like for Rev.A, and mine matched them. I got the router here in Canada from Futureshop, so pretty sure it is North American.

As for firewall, I only have AVG Anti-Virus and windows FW..

I dont know how to do sumcheck..=(

*Edit*

I JUST got it to work now..its pretty stupid..

Apparently, the bin file downloaded from the site the router's page sends you to (where it says "the latest version of firmware is 1.09, click here to download it") when i clicked "there", it took me to http://support.dlink.com/, and the firmware doesnt work.

HOWEVER, this time, I went straight to www.dlink.com, and from the top drop-down menu, i chose DIR-625 (Here I was a bit confused, cuz the picture doesnt match my router!! LOL), then clicked Rev.A, i got a different download page. The image file from there was valid, and the router did what it suppose to do, went though the whole 2minute count down to reprogram and reboot, and done!..latest firmware..

Thanks BudMan for your help, and Vegetunks tried too..XD

Hmmm - I grabbed the file from www.dlink.com and its the same exact file according the the checksums.

strange.. I do believe they would be pulling the files from the same ftp site.. very strange!!! atleast you go it updated.. more than likey there will not be any other updates, since the latest one is quite dated ;)

    • "Users may experience repeated KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE bugchecks after upgrading to this build." This "showstopper" bug/issue is still present for Dev 26200.5651, so NOT QUITE the June 2025 Snapshot for 26200 release but I think we are close to that release so should be within the next couple releases!
