[VLC] Cannot install VLC via apt-get

Recommended Posts

Hi. I want to install VLC on my Debian Lenny, so I typed:

  Quote
Zacharias:/home/gundamdriver# apt-get install vlc

Reading package lists... Done

Building dependency tree

Reading state information... Done

Package vlc is not available, but is referred to by another package.

This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or

is only available from another source

E: Package vlc has no installation candidate

I checked with Synaptics, it has VLS (server version of VLC?) only. From the official page of VLC, it says that it is included in official Debian repositories, but when I search for VLC in packages.debian.org, VLC isn't available for Debian Lenny!

So, what should I do to install the powerful player?

Also, I wonder how to play VCDs on Debian? I installed Totem, all GStreamer plugins, but VCDs still cannot be played! :o Maybe there are some additional packages have to be installed?

Thanks in advance!
