Dave Perry: 360, PS3 to eventually steal Wii gamers

Recommended Posts

Three of my coworkers have sold their Wii's in the past month. Their reasoning? All three said it got tiring and 2 out of the three said there were no good games out to play that they didn't already own. Suffice to say, all three went out and bought PS3 after selling their Wii's.

I already had predicted the Wii would get tiring after a few months of playing it so I skipped it.

mean games arent about 'fun' its about the experience ... and this is not possible with Wiis cute characters and block scenery.

Wow.

...wow.

Well that does shed some light for me as to why people are against the Wii. I dont know a single person that owns one that has considered selling it, I've only seen that online. I dont know, maybe its because these particular people don't obsess over huge entertainment centers or how much HDR bloom is being used on a game, they actually play games to, y'know, have fun. I guess the "average gamer" doesn't care about that anymore? How did any of you people survive the 8-bit era? We're you offended every time you saw the screen, with it's 16 colors and 256x240 resolution? ;P

It's possible that a lot of people complaining about graphics missed that era entirely (too young).

But those graphics were the best back then ;) And I must say that to this day the gameplay on some of those older games still out-do the games of today.

Would you like a cookie or something?

Amen to that.

I miss the Sierra type of game (Space Quest, Police Quest, King Q, Island of Dr...., ...) or Days of the Tentacles, .... Those kind of games where fun, you had to search, solve puzzles.

Now it's mostly Sports or RPG that you have to control 12 things at the same time or full agressive KILL KILL KILL....

It's probably why I still enjoy some of the games on the Nintendo DS or Wii. The simple things like Super Mario DS... Oh, and I'm 32... I saw the time of the Atari...

Well if you are into puzzlesolving I am sure you might be interested in a game coming to the pc call cryostasis..from what I have seen it looks to be very much puzzle oriented as you have to not only keep your character warm, to prevent death, but also go back in time and rescue others from their demise.

For those of you who really think power/graphics is what has always sold video game systems, read about the Neo Geo, the Saturn or even compare the success of the Nintendo DS against the PSP.

Graphics always come second place to "overall experience", it's always been like that. The PS3 may be a fine piece of hardware but until they release some really good and original games on it, it won't be worth its weight of metal.

But back then the amount of graphical difference isn't what it is today. The technology just didn't exist back then, and now that it does it has a greater impact.

Think about it, really.

The Wii is an excellent idea for people who want to visualize themselves as the characters in the games.

I mean, take Scorpion from Mortal Kombat 7: Armageddon. By literally acting it, now you know what's like to draw a spear at the opponent.

Oh yeah, on a side note, the Wii is perfect for body action, thus the fat and calorie burning in the human body. Hello? Did you not think about *that*? If it's too "tiring" or "boring" then those people need to get out and exercise more at the gym.

I pity those fat-ass people who'd move their thumbs and not their bodies. Please don't take this into offense and/or flame me, okay? I'm making a point.

'Kthxbye.

    • Just the price of doing business. The scamble to pull as much from the web as possible is happening, and it's happening before a case like this changes how or what is legal do to with AI in terms of data harvesting. But even then as we've seen with the likes of Google who ignore cookie requests and just accept the fact they'll get fined, it's built into their business price model now. AI is here, its not going away. Their reward if any from the court case would be best suited to trying to incorprate AI or licence their end points as authentic human verified content. The problem is, as we've seen these same news papers are using AI themselves.

    • This Chinese company is reportedly developing a feature Apple and Samsung can only dream of by Hamid Ganji While companies like Apple and Samsung have been relatively conservative with their devices’ battery capacities in recent years, Chinese manufacturers have taken the competition to the next level by introducing significantly larger batteries. However, the latest report from China suggests that a local company may already be developing a smartphone with a whopping 14,000mAh battery. Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station claimed on Weibo that a smartphone maker is developing a device with a 14,000mAh battery. If true, it would be the largest battery ever used in a smartphone and could, in theory, provide up to a week of battery life on a single charge. The leaker did not reveal the name of the company behind the device, but there are some clues. This week, HONOR unveiled the X80 Pro Max in China with an 11,000mAh battery and 90W wired charging support. The company also launched the Honor Win in January, which packs a 10,000mAh battery. HONOR, a former subsidiary of Huawei, has a proven track record of developing smartphones with unusually large batteries. However, other Chinese brands, including Xiaomi, have also launched devices such as the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max with 7,500mAh batteries. Though Chinese users on Weibo also believe the company behind the new battery is HONOR. Interestingly, Digital Chat Station said the device with the 14,000mAh battery weighs around 220 grams, making it lighter than the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max (233 grams) and slightly heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra (214 grams). The iPhone 17 Pro Max currently packs a 5,088mAh battery in eSIM-only versions, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 5,000mAh battery. Neither device is expected to see a dramatic increase in battery capacity in its next-generation successor. So when it comes to battery comparison, Chinese brands are unbeaten. HONOR smartphones are currently available in the EU, but the Chinese brand has no official presence in the United States due to restrictions imposed by the U.S. government.
