The female lead in 20th Century Fox's spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine will reportedly be the Silver Fox, who, like Wolverine, was a member of the CIA's mutant covert ops unit called Team X.

Fox apparently looked no further than its summer hit, Live Free or Die Hard, to find its Silver Fox. According to IESB.net, ass-whoopin' hottie Maggie Q will play the role.

Maggie Q has also appeared in Balls of Fury and Mission: Impossible III. She co-stars with Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, in the forthcoming Fox thriller The Tourist.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is slated to begin filming shortly in Australia under the direction of Gavin Hood.

In this announcement at ComingSoon.net about 20th Century Fox's 2009 tentpoles, the studio has revealed the official synopsis for X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is set to star Jackman and will be directed by Gavin Hood (Tsotsi, Rendition). The producers are Lauren Shuler Donner and Ralph Winter (who produced all three previous "X-Men" films), along with Jackman and his Seed Prods. producing partner, John Palermo. The film will be executive produced by Marvel Films' Kevin Feige.

Leading up to the events of X-Men, X-Men Origins: Wolverine ? written by David Benioff (The Kite Runner, Troy) ? tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

I am already stoked!!!

I really hope they do Sabretooth right this time. He was ridiculous in the X-Men movies. They made him a pro wrestler with claws and no intelligence instead of a conniving, sarcastic assasin...

agreed.

I look forward to this. I wish they'd make other mutant flicks to tie into the XMEN movies. Xforce [the new mutants], Xcalibur, Xfactor, etc. from back in the day. It would be kick-a55 to see Cable and Deadpool in a real action flick...and ArchAngel too....giant wings of blades would be crazy.

agreed.

I would love a Deadpool movie. But it has to be R. A PG or PG-13 movie would suck. I did hear that Ryan Renolds wants to play deadpool if there was a movie.

I would love to see anything with Deadpool, Omega Red or Cyber. Those were 3 of the best villains/anti-heroes related to Wolverine. Wasn't Deadpool part of the Weapon X project in some way?

Like the X-Men's Wolverine, Deadpool is the product of the Canadian government's paramilitary Weapon X program, although his place of birth is unknown.

Wikipedia says this...

The film is set seventeen years before the first X-Men,[57] and will center on Wolverine's early encounters with Sabretooth, William Stryker and the Weapon X program, and other mutants. The Blob and John Wraith may also feature, as well as Vietnam War flashbacks and a love interest for Wolverine.

Queenstown residents are gearing up for the arrival of the crew from a new mega-budget action movie, but studio bosses remain tight-lipped about when filming will start. X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the fourth movie in the hugely popular X-Men series, is currently in pre-production at Sydney's Fox Studios.

Initially scheduled for release in America in May 2009, movie insiders have said there are rumours of a delay in the project.

Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as the movie's title character with his company Seed Productions at the helm. Scream star Liev Schrieber and Hawaiian beauty Maggie Q are also rumoured to have been cast.

Gavin Hood, who directed Reese Witherspoon in last year's thriller Rendition, has been confirmed as the film's director.

The proposed locations for filming include Queenstown, Deerpark Heights, Skippers Canyon, Glenorchy and Milford Sound.

However, a spokesman for the Wolverine production office said the exact date that filming will begin in Queenstown was being kept secret. "At this stage I can't release that kind of information but we should be able to tell you more later in the month," he said.

CHUD is reporting that Liev Schreiber is playing Victor Creed (AKA Sabretooth) in the Gavin Hood-directed X-Men Origins: Wolverine and not a young Stryker as was previously believed.

The site adds that Michael C. Hall ("Dexter") is instead in talks for the role of Stryker and that they are eyeing Michelle Monaghan for Silverfox.

Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

The movie opens in theaters on May 1, 2009.

Michael C Hall would be awesome!
