The Mogul, (UTStarcom 6800) is replacing the Apache (UTStarcom 6700), which was an amazing phone. The Mogul has all the same features, and then some. Not to mention, all the improvments over the older model.

The main difference between the Q and the Mogul are size and software. The Mogul runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional, and the Q runs Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone Edition. The difference? One is a newer version and has a touchscreen, the other is older and you must use buttons for everything.

It all depends on how much you'll use the features. PDA phones are nothing without data, but the Mogul does have WiFi so if you choose to not pay an arm and a leg for data, you can use WiFi where it's available.

i would go for the HTC Titan (Mogul,UTStarcom 6800) i got a chance to play around with it i really like it .

it's thinner and lighter than my HTC Hermes (T-Mobile MDA Vario II) the keyboard is easier to slide open and has a soft rubbery touch it feels better for typing and has More internal memory, larger battery 1500mah i think, thumbwheel like a blackberry, 2MP Cam, Wifi, WM6 ,i really like this phone beats every other CDMA PPC phone out now... To Bad its only CDMA

I just got a 6700 for $50 brand new from sprint after rebates and contract discounts. I have been a customer with them for slightly over 2 years. And we actually purchased the last 4 we could find for our family.

I will admit my parents liked the idea of all the wonderful things it could do, but I know windows mobile is not the most user friendly in the world. So I tried telling them it would take me a little while to come up with some software to expand its features and make user friendly... well it took me a week to get to it and my mom started to want to back out! I went ahead and loaded the software I had been testing out on these phones immediately to appease her, I just don't want to change to another program that works better and have to then re-teach them the software.

I have been in the PDA scene since 2003, so I am very aware of the good apps and bad apps and what I would want and how to deal with them.

And for the price I will take the 6700 over the Mogul any day.

If you have a Windows Mobile phone you MUST get wisbar advance 2 first and foremost. And number two you need a good dashboard program such as snoopsoft osx themed dashboard with times, or a new program I am liking SPB Shell suite I think it is. Also SPB insight is good. Handyget(download manager), SKtools, Dynamo, and Pocket Player.

Dynamo and SPB Shell and Pocket Player are some of the newer programs that I did have back in 2003.

I never liked wisbar! Such a waste of ram and bogs my pocket pc down.

The Mogul is nice. It's biggest downfall is it's lack of RAM. It still only has 64mb which means it fills up pretty quick and then things start slowing down, or worst case, crashing. With "normal" usage though, it's usually going to be alright. Just go into the memory manager and end all processes once or twice a day and you'll be fine, or pick up something like HTC X-Button so that you can make programs actually close when you press X.

Bluetooth is pretty much crap. Personally, it works fine with my Jawbone, but my HT820 headphones get about half a second of music, then cut out and don't work. Several people report issues like skipping and incompatibility with Bluetooth. It's hoped and assumed that a firmware upgrade in the future will fix this.

Speaking of firmware, this fall the Mogul will be updated to EVDO Rev. A. There's also speculation about GPS. Right now, GPS is completely off. Some say it will be enabled with the fall firmware, some disagree, and even when people agree that it will be, the functionality is argued (whether it will be very simple, or if it will actually work with third party apps).

Other than that, it pretty much works as expected for a PPC. I've had mine for... I guess 2-3 weeks now, and I'm enjoying it. It's my first PPC or smartphone, so I'm still getting used to a few things. The battery isn't like your typical dumbphone. My previous phones would last at least 2 days on a charge. The best I can make my Mogul last is about a day, and sometimes it's a lot less if I'm messing around a lot, but it is a PPC and I have things like Direct Push setup for my work email, so it's expected. Just keep a cable or cradle to charge it at home and work (and in the car if you want), and it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Then again, if you've had a PPC before, you're used to it.

Oh, and I absolutely, 100% agree that Sprint's customer services is absolutely horrible, but luckily, after a week or so you'll have everything setup and not have to talk to them again. I have a SERO (employee referal) plan, so I pay $30 a month for 500 minutes, 7pm nights and weekends, unlimited mobile to mobile, unlimited text messages and unlimited internet, so I deal with it. If I were with any other provider like AT&T I'd pay at least that much even for the unlimited internet (can't remember, it's either $30 or $40).

Overall, I'm pleased so far. The phone is nice, I'm enjoying having a PPC, I can't beat the plan I have with Sprint, and EVDO works well in my area. The only phones I'd own from Sprint are the Mogul or the soon-to-be-released RAZR 2. But for the price of the two, sure the RAZR 2 is a beautiful phone, but it would cost as much, if not more than the Mogul, and with the Mogul I have incredibly more power.

I personally was looking at the Q until I saw the Mogul. Personally, I like the fact that the keyboard slides out instead, and the fact taht it runs WM6 instead of WM5 sinched it for me. So I switched my choice one I have enough to buy it.

I actually got the Mogul first, but didn't like not having the freedom of a touch screen and returned it for the Mogul during my first 30 days. I absolutely love everything the Mogul can do.

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!
    • Same, never saw it on Android or iOS. Guess only some people got it *shrugs*
    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
