I visited Windows Update and see there is mandatory new software required to install so as to be able to update from their service.

I have a couple of updates provided to MS by the manufacturers that are not available otherwise but I wanted to see if anyone here knew the composition and purpose of this new software.

Thanks!

Hi,

This should be the latest version of KB892130 the WGA Validation Tool (note this is NOT the WGA Notification Tool - KB905474) which allows MS to validate you installed OS.

This is also used to validate your OS before software such as IE7, WMP11 and Windows Defender will install.

Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool installs an ActiveX control LegitCheckControl.dll, LegitcheckControl.inf and GWFSPIDGen.dll to \Windows\System32 directory. LegitCheckControl.dll is currently at v 1.7.36.0

If you currently have an earlier version installed you will probably be prompted to update when you access WU/MU.

WGA Validation Tool performs a validation check to verify that your copy of Windows is genuine when,

You try to download a program or software that is marked with the WGA icon from Microsoft Download Center, or

When you try to access updates on the Microsoft Windows Update Web site.

You will be asked to install (or reinstall) and complete the validation process if you do not have the most recent version of KB892130 installed.

If you choose not to do this then you will not be able to access Windows Update or Microsoft update. However you should be allowed to download critical updates only via Automatic Update.

Kind Regards

Simon

Sorry it has taken so long. Actually there is a version of Windows Update Software 7.0.6000.374 that is the culprit. Because I need Matrox G550 drivers, I think the only source is MS WU. I'm going to visit the Matrox website to see. Anyway, is there any collective knowledge about this new WU software and what it entails?

Thanks!

Uhhmmm... the orange faced baboon gave all our data to Musk... what's Elon going to do with it that the so-called, "feared" Chinese wouldn't? Personally, I'd hand my SS card over to Xi before I'd hand a glass of water to Musk who was dying of thirst. Why? Because Xi has never made it clear that he was a true threat to me... or any of us for that matter.

    • You can now customize the email actions toolbar in Outlook for Android and iOS by David Uzondu Microsoft has announced a new feature that will finally allow you to customize the action toolbar in Outlook for Android and iOS. For a long time, the main actions you could take on an email were stuck in a static position in the top-right corner. Deleting, archiving, or marking something as unread meant reaching your thumb all the way up there. Now, that entire bar has been moved to a, perhaps, much more sensible spot at the bottom of the screen. Here's how it works. When you open an email, you will see a new toolbar at the bottom of the screen. This bar holds several actions you can take, like Reply, Delete, and so on. Any commands that cannot fit are tucked away behind a "More options" button. To change the layout, you just tap that button. From there, you can tap More options (...) > Reorder, as shown in the following screenshot: Then, from there, you just drag and drop the actions you want onto the main bar. Once you set it, the layout stays the same across all your accounts. Now, it is not without its quirks. There are a couple of known issues, like the fact that your layout might change depending on your screen size or if you flip your phone horizontally. If your custom actions do not fit, they will get bumped to the overflow menu automatically. You will also see more grayed-out, disabled buttons than before. Microsoft says this is intentional so actions do not disappear from view entirely. This update is currently rolling out to anyone running at least Build 4.2522.0 on Android or Build 4.2522 on iOS.
