Recommended Posts

hi guys, just bought a new system,

q6600

artic freezer 7 pro

asus p5n32-e sli

ocz reaper 4x1gb ddr2 800

evga 8800 ultra

antec p182 added a tricool fan 120mm

what do you guys suggest for overclocking, i was thinking of something like this:

fbs 400

multiplier 7

clock 2.8 ghz

i didnt think about what kind of voltage i would need...does anyone have any advice (apps to test stability, vcore) and btw im aiming to get 1:1 cpu:ram

Welcome to Neowin first :)

Very nice system and overclock dude! I'm almost sure you can reach that on stock voltage, because everyone I know with a Q6600 is running it on 333x9 = 3.0GHz at least, on stock voltage.

To test stability, use Prime95 by keeping 2-4 instances of it running for several hours or so, and watch the temperature closely with Speedfan or the utility provided by your motherboard, it should not reach 62c+ under load for longevity. What cooler you've got? Quad's gets really hot, more than any Duo's.

EDIT: OPPS, seen you got Artic Freezer, nice cooler (Y).

Good luck.

i got the g0 version, after many trial and errors i got it stable ( not very impressive i admit ) at 3GHz

fsb 333

multi 9

idle 41 load 57

the thing is that even if i run orthos x4 only 2 of the core are 100% the other 2 are just sitting there...0%-2%.

cant get fbs more then that too even when lowering multi...im gonna check if there might be a bios uptade or something to help.

after some looking around i found out there is an issue: the board has some kind of lame fbs hole between 350-400 mhz, but hours later i found a guide w/ instructions how to get 400mhz (what im looking for) settings are :

bios recommended 1103

nvidia gpu ex:disable

linkboot:disable

spread spectrum ctrl:disable all

execute disable bit:disable

virtualisation technology:disable

e intel seepstep:disable

c c1:disable

leg usb support:disable

hpet:disable

cpu vtt:1.55 max

1.2 ht:1.3

nb core:1.4

those settings are to reach a fsb of 400, i will try those settings tonight and post results later

Hi guys,

I'm a noob to overclocking but I've got a nearly identical setup, a P5N32-E SLI with a Q6600 (G0) and 4x1GB OCZ 8500 EPP RAM. I've been unable to get any stable overclock above 2.8Ghz, yet seems everywhere I read, 3.0Ghz (9x333) is easily achievable on stock voltages. I'm currently running BIOS 1503. Can anyone walk me through (or link me to) the setup to get this board and CPU stable at 3.0Ghz? Doesn't matter what I try, my PC always BSODs at anything over 2.8!

Some other details about my system:

Case: Coolermaster CM-690

Fan: Thermaltake Typhoon

Many thanks in advance

Stop spreadning nonsense, i run a 630i and overclock my 2.5Ghz E5200 to way over 3.2Ghz and its as stable as anything.

It may run smoothly for YOU. Go take a look at some of the other tech forums (AnandTech, [H]ardOCP for starters) . It (6xx series chipsets from NVIDIA) have historically had chipset cooling problems and stability issues.

It's different for every board and chip, i Have Gigabyte EP45-DSL3 with Q6600 G0, I have mine at 3.2Ghz stable

CPU Volt is 1.475 which goes down too 1.44 which is what is needed for this CPU at 3.2Ghz

North bridge v1.30V

South bridge v1.20V

Temps don't go above 55 in Prime95, Intel burntest makes CPU just under 70.

I have a Zalman 9700 CPU Cooler :D Expensive big sucker
